Public-company filings in Spain are supervised by Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV). Reporting follows IFRS (consolidated); Spanish GAAP (separate). Filings are most commonly published in Spanish and English. Major issuers are listed on IBEX 35, IBEX Medium Cap and IBEX Small Cap. Calendar year predominant.
Spanish disclosure — CNMV, Bolsas y Mercados Españoles, and ESEF
Spanish listed-issuer disclosure is supervised by the CNMV (Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores) under the EU Transparency Directive and its Spanish implementing legislation. Annual reports — the Informe financiero anual — are filed in iXBRL under the EU ESEF mandate alongside the traditional PDF copy. Live regulatory announcements flow through the CNMV's official electronic disclosure system as Información Privilegiada (price-sensitive) or Otra Información Relevante (other relevant information), and are deposited in the CNMV's public filing register, accessible at cnmv.es.
The Spanish disclosure calendar is anchored to the 31 December fiscal year-end for virtually all listed groups. Annual reports land between February and April; half-year reports arrive in July–September in line with the EU Transparency Directive; and quarterly indicators — where issuers choose to publish them — are spread across May and November. Ad-hoc disclosures under MAR Article 17, insider-transaction notifications under MAR Article 19, and significant shareholding notifications dominate the live volume. FinancialReports ingests CNMV-published filings across all categories within roughly one minute of publication, deduplicated and classified by filing type.
Accounting follows IFRS for consolidated financials — mandatory for all issuers listed on Bolsas y Mercados Españoles (BME) — and Spanish national GAAP (Plan General de Contabilidad) for separate-entity financials, mirroring the dual-set pattern common across Continental Europe. Filing language is primarily Spanish; an English version is standard for IBEX 35 constituents and available for a majority of IBEX Medium Cap issuers, while smaller-cap and Continuación-segment filings are typically Spanish-only. Both language versions are preserved where present, with language metadata exposed on every filing record.
The practical outcome is a structured ESEF-tagged annual archive paired with a continuous ad-hoc disclosure stream — both available as JSON metadata, Markdown body (the same text rendered on the public web pages, ready for programmatic consumption), and original PDF or iXBRL. The Markdown layer is particularly valuable for Spanish content because CNMV PDF layouts vary significantly across issuers; the normalised text removes that variability before it reaches your pipeline.
