Swiss disclosure — FINMA, SIX Swiss Exchange, and the dual-standard regime

Swiss listed-issuer disclosure is supervised by FINMA (Eidgenössische Finanzmarktaufsicht) under the Financial Market Infrastructure Act (FMIA) and associated ordinances. Switzerland sits outside the EU and its implementing legislation mirrors but does not replicate the EU Transparency Directive exactly: the disclosure regime is functionally similar — periodic reports, ad-hoc disclosures, insider-transaction notifications, significant-shareholding notifications — but operates under Swiss law with SIX Exchange Regulation as the frontline enforcement body for listing-rule compliance on the SIX Swiss Exchange.

Switzerland's disclosure calendar reflects the calendar-year dominance among large-cap issuers, with annual reports landing between February and April, half-year reports in July–August, and quarterly sales figures (common among SMI constituents) in April and October. Ad-hoc disclosures under the SIX ad-hoc publicity rules — the Swiss analogue of MAR Article 17 — form the continuous live stream, alongside management-transaction notifications and significant-shareholding disclosures under FMIA Article 120. Switzerland operates a dual accounting standard environment: IFRS for large internationally-oriented listed groups (all SMI 20 and most SLI constituents), and Swiss GAAP FER (Fachempfehlungen zur Rechnungslegung) for smaller or domestically oriented issuers — a meaningful split that affects comparability for cross-country financial models. ESEF iXBRL applies only to issuers that already file under IFRS and have opted into the EU-aligned format; Swiss GAAP FER reports are typically PDF-only. Filing language spans all four of Switzerland's national languages — German, French, Italian, and English — with English serving as the de facto standard for SMI-level issuers given the global shareholder base, and German predominating among smaller-cap Swiss issuers.

The dataset preserves all language versions present, exposes accounting-standard metadata (IFRS or Swiss GAAP FER) on every filing record, and indexes filing bodies as JSON metadata, Markdown body, and original PDF or iXBRL where the latter is available. The accounting-standard field is particularly useful for researchers building cross-country models who need to flag non-IFRS Swiss filings before applying ratio normalisation logic.
