Greek disclosure — HCMC, Athens Exchange, and ESEF
Greek listed-issuer disclosure is supervised by the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC / Επιτροπή Κεφαλαιαγοράς) under the EU Transparency Directive as transposed into Greek law. Regulated information is filed with the HCMC and published through the Athens Exchange (ATHEX) announcement system. Annual reports must be filed in iXBRL under the EU ESEF mandate alongside the PDF; the HCMC enforces the standard EU timeline.
ATHEX lists approximately 150 equities across its regulated market, with the FTSE/ATHEX Large Cap (25 constituents) serving as the primary institutional index and the ATHEX Mid Cap and ATHEX Small Cap covering the remainder of the investable universe. Fiscal years follow the calendar year for almost all listed issuers. Annual reports (ετήσιες οικονομικές εκθέσεις) land between March and late April; half-year reports follow EU Transparency Directive timing. Primary languages are Greek and English; most FTSE/ATHEX Large Cap constituents publish in both, while smaller issuers are frequently Greek-only. Accounting follows IFRS for listed consolidated groups. Ad-hoc disclosures under MAR Article 17 — price-sensitive announcements, insider transactions, significant shareholding notifications — constitute most live volume. FinancialReports indexes HCMC-published filings within roughly one minute of publication.
The Greek market recovered significantly post-2018 following the resolution of the banking-sector recapitalisations, and ATHEX was upgraded from frontier to emerging-market status by MSCI in 2013 (re-downgraded and then re-upgraded over subsequent years).
