Public-company filings in Hong Kong are supervised by Securities and Futures Commission (SFC). Reporting follows HKFRS (substantially aligned with IFRS); IFRS permitted. Filings are most commonly published in English and Traditional Chinese. Major issuers are listed on Hang Seng Index, Hang Seng China Enterprises and Hang Seng Tech. Calendar and March year-ends both common.
Hong Kong disclosure — SFC, HKEX-News, and the dual-language regime
Hong Kong listed-issuer disclosure is governed by the SFC (Securities and Futures Commission) and administered through the HKEX (Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing), which operates the HKEX-News portal as the mandatory electronic disclosure channel. All regulated filings — annual reports, interim reports, circulars, and announcements — flow through HKEX-News within the deadlines set by the Listing Rules, with no equivalent of a separate regulatory storage mechanism; HKEX-News is both the live wire and the historical archive. FinancialReports ingests the HKEX-News feed within roughly one minute of publication, classifying filings by type and issuer across the Main Board and GEM (Growth Enterprise Market) board.
Hong Kong filings are required in both English and Traditional Chinese under the HKEX Listing Rules, making it one of a small number of major markets with mandatory dual-language disclosure at the document level. Accounting standards split between HKFRS (Hong Kong Financial Reporting Standards, substantially equivalent to IFRS) for most Main Board issuers, and PRC GAAP (Chinese Accounting Standards for Business Enterprises) for a subset of mainland H-share companies. Most issuers with a 31 December fiscal year-end publish annual results between mid-March and late April, with half-year results landing in August–September. There is no mandatory Q1 / Q3 interim management statement requirement, keeping periodic report volume lower than European markets.
The live disclosure stream is dominated by announcements covering connected transactions under Chapter 14A of the Listing Rules — a category unique in scope to the Hong Kong market, arising from the large proportion of issuers with controlling shareholders and related-party dealings. Chapter 14A circulars can run to hundreds of pages and require independent financial adviser opinions, making them among the most information-dense filings in the dataset. Beyond connected transactions, the live volume includes profit warnings, results announcements, placing circulars, and major acquisition announcements. FinancialReports indexes all categories with consistent filing-type metadata.
Each filing is available as JSON metadata, Markdown body (the same processed text rendered on the public web pages), and original PDF. The platform preserves both the English and Traditional Chinese versions where published separately and exposes language metadata on every filing record, allowing downstream pipelines to filter by language or process both versions in parallel for bilingual NLP applications.
