The Greek listed-company landscape

The Athens Exchange hosts approximately 150 listed equities across its regulated market segments. The FTSE/ATHEX Large Cap (25 constituents, free-float weighted) is the institutional benchmark; the ATHEX Mid Cap and ATHEX Small Cap extend coverage to the remainder of the market. ATHEX also operates the EN.A. alternative market for growth-stage companies under lighter listing requirements.

Sector composition reflects the Greek economy's structure: banking dominates the large-cap index, with the four systemic banks — National Bank of Greece, Alpha Bank, Eurobank, and Piraeus Bank — accounting for a disproportionate share of FTSE/ATHEX Large Cap weight following the recapitalisations and NPL clean-ups of the 2010s and early 2020s. Shipping and maritime services represent another distinctive cluster: Greece is the world's largest ship-owning nation by deadweight tonnage, and several listed companies (including Hellenic Shipping or Athens-listed shipping holding groups) have significant maritime exposure. Beyond banking and shipping, the universe includes telecoms (OTE / Cosmote, majority-owned by Deutsche Telekom), retail (Jumbo, Mytilineos), construction, energy (Motor Oil Hellas, ELPE), and a growing tech and digital services segment.
