Japan listed companies.
3,967 publicly traded Japanese companies, organised by sector and exchange. Each company links into its filings history, KPIs and reporting metadata.
Public-company filings in Japan are supervised by Financial Services Agency of Japan (FSA). Reporting follows JGAAP / Japan-IFRS / IFRS / US GAAP (issuer choice). Filings are most commonly published in Japanese and English. Major issuers are listed on Nikkei 225, TOPIX and TOPIX Core 30. March year-end common (≈70% of issuers).
The Japanese listed-company universe — Nikkei, TOPIX, and the post-reform TSE landscape
Japan is the third-largest equity market globally by capitalisation, with approximately 3,800 companies listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange across the Prime, Standard, and Growth market segments following the April 2022 restructuring. The index family spans from the broadly familiar to the technically precise: the Nikkei 225 (price-weighted, 225 constituents, the most widely cited Japanese benchmark internationally), the TOPIX (market-cap weighted, all TSE Prime companies, the standard for domestic institutional allocation), the TOPIX Core 30 (the 30 largest TOPIX constituents by liquidity-adjusted cap), and the JPX Prime 150 (launched June 2023, 150 Prime issuers screened for return-on-equity and price-to-book, designed to identify capital-efficient businesses rather than simply large ones).
Sector composition is defined by Japan's industrial legacy and its ongoing corporate-governance reform. Industrials (~20% of TOPIX), Consumer Discretionary (~15%, anchored by Toyota, Honda, Sony, Panasonic, and the broader automotive supply chain), Information Technology (dominated by electronics and semiconductor-adjacent names including Tokyo Electron, Shin-Etsu Chemical, and the foundry ecosystem), and Financials (the three megabanks — MUFG, Mizuho, SMFG — plus the insurance groups) account for the bulk of index weight. A long tail of precision-engineering, specialty-chemicals, and machinery companies in the Standard segment represents the industrial mid-cap layer that is systematically under-covered by international research but highly relevant for supply-chain mapping.
FinancialReports tracks every TSE-listed issuer across Prime, Standard, and Growth segments, classified by FRCF / ISIC sector, industry group, and market segment, with the accounting standard (J-GAAP, IFRS, US GAAP) and fiscal year-end exposed on each company record. Each company page surfaces the complete dual-channel filing history (EDINET statutory reports and TDnet announcements), ISINs, ticker codes, and cross-listing data. The JPX-Nikkei Index 400, TOPIX sector sub-indices, and Nikkei sector classifications are also mapped, enabling filterable coverage by any of the major institutional benchmark compositions.
The Japanese corporate landscape is in an active governance transition: TSE pressure on Prime companies to improve ROE and PBR, increased shareholder activism by domestic and foreign funds, and the unwinding of cross-shareholdings are generating a sustained flow of extraordinary disclosures — share buyback announcements, parent-subsidiary restructurings, and M&A events — that sit alongside the routine periodic filing cycle and are all indexed through the same pipeline.
