Fording Canadian Coal Trust was a royalty trust whose core business centered on the mining and export of metallurgical coal, a high-quality product essential for the international steel industry's coke production. The Trust's primary asset was a 60% ownership stake in the Elk Valley Coal Partnership, which operated six major coal mines. During its active period, the Trust was recognized as the world's second-largest exporter of metallurgical coal. It also engaged in the mining of industrial minerals, such as wollastonite. The Trust ceased independent operations in 2008 when its assets were acquired by Teck Cominco (now Teck Resources).
