The company was founded in 1953 with the name of the Aircraft Repair Plant (UM 03767), the predecessor of S.C.AEROSTAR S.A. Bacau of today. It had the previous names along the years: URA-1953, IRAv (Aircraft Repair Enterprise) - 1970, IAv (Aircraft Enterprise) - 1978, and in 1991 it was registered as a stock company with entirely state-owned capital under its current designation S.C.AEROSTAR S.A.
