ICOLLEGE SECURES WORLD-RENOWNED VOCATIONAL EDUCATION SPECIALIST

GLOBAL VOCATIONAL EDUCATION EXPERT DR PHIL RUTHERFORD JOINS ICOLLEGE LIMITED, A NEW ONLINE EDUCATION PROVIDER, AS DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION

iCollege is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Phil Rutherford as Director of Education.

A highly regarded specialist on national and international vocational education systems, he brings more than 40 years experience in adult workplace training and staff improvement.

For the past two decades, he has led or been part of teams creating major vocational education and training schemes across the world. These include: the National Vocational Qualifications System (UK), the New Zealand and South African Qualifications Frameworks, the United Arab Emirates Vocational Education and Training System and the Australian Qualifications Framework.

He has been a principal consultant and project manager in the introduction of vocational and competency-based training and assessment systems across Europe with CEDEFOP, the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training, as well as in the United States, Libya, Iran, India and many South East Asian countries through the International Labour Organisation.

His expertise has also been called on to provide advice on the creation of vocational education structures and processes in China, Kenya, Argentina, Mexico, Canada and the integration of these systems with the International Baccalaureate qualifications.

Dr Rutherford said it was the iCollege vision that drew him to the project.

“Over the past two decades I have met very few people who can visualize where vocational education and training could be and the great benefits it can bring to students, their employers and the economy,” Dr Rutherford said.

“When the iCollege founders first approached me, I was deeply impressed by their understanding of the opportunities that an organisation such as iCollege has for reshaping the world of vocational education and taking such training to another level.”

“Their vision for iCollege as an internationally respected training provider resonated with my belief that for too long my profession has been focused on achieving a benchmark that was set too low and, if the standards were to be lifted, we had to do it ourselves.”

Prior to the worldwide adoption of competency-based vocational education training and assessment systems, Dr Rutherford worked in many training-related positions, from trainer to supervisor, manager and principal of his own training organisation.

He has also been responsible for creating national policies and directives for government agencies, including the Australian military.

“Vocational education and training in Australia and overseas has for too long been monopolised by governments who set the rules, determine the standards and then dedicate themselves to ensuring that training providers remained within them,” Dr Rutherford said.

“Where I see many opportunities for iCollege is in the provision of training for individuals and organisations that are seeking skills and knowledge which will enable them to achieve their business, strategic and personal objectives.”

“More and more international market places are opening up while technology, at the same time, is giving greater access to information and new clients – the iCollege vision is to ensure they are sufficiently flexible to meet both the current and future needs of students.”

iCollege is expected to launch to the public within the next few months.
