Press Release
COFLE: FIRST SUSTAINABILITY REPORT PUBLISHED
Trezzo sull'Adda (MI), 21st december 2022 – Cofle S.p.A. - a leading company in the design, production and worldwide trading of control cables and control systems for the off-road vehicles, automotive and automotive after market sectors – has published the first Sustainability Report to record its consolidated commitment to Environmental, Social and Governance sustainability, and its future goals.
Following a careful analysis aimed at identifying the significant environmental impacts of the activities, it emerged that the growth in turnover in 2021 did not lead to a proportional increase in energy consumption, total waste produced and direct and indirect emissions of greenhouse gases (scope 1 and 2), which were respectively reduced by 18.8%, 14.8% and 19.9% per euro of revenues compared to 2020. Among the initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental impact, is the purchase of most of the material from local suppliers, resulting in reduced impact on logistics, and the use of raw materials (49% of the total) resulting from recycling processes. The importance that Cofle addresses to the environment is confirmed by the ISO 14001 certification.
The sustainability report provides a picture of a company that invests in young people, values the role of women in the company and invests in training. 100% of employees are employed indefinitely, 50% are under the age of 30 and 41.5% are women. During 2021, a total of 498 hours of training were provided, through a training course that covers both the specific aspects of the job and the health and safety aspects. Cofle has also activated a welfare service through the Intesa Sanpaolo platform where the annual result premium linked to the achievement of the corporate budget can be switched.
Alessandra Barbieri, Head of Group Communications and IR Manager of Cofle, commented: "This report is the result of a commitment that has roots in time. Since the beginning of our history, in 1964, Cofle has paid particular attention to what were not yet defined CSR policies, and a strong respect for the environment in which it worked. This behaviour has characterized Cofle throughout its growth path, and will continue to characterize it also in its expansion abroad. It is in fact our goal to draft a Consolidated Statement of a nonfinancial nature that includes all foreign branches by 2024".
To continue its path of sustainable growth, Cofle has set 9 specific targets to be achieved by 2024:
- Study of new packaging to totally replace the use of plastic
- Feasibility study for the installation of a new geothermal plant
- Purchase of GO certificates to increase the share of electricity coming from renewable sources
- Scope 3 greenhouse gas emission inventory and redefinition of reporting perimeter
- Increase in the percentage of female presence in the company
• Start of the prevention project with free medical examinations for employees in collaboration wit LILT (Italian League for the Fight against Cancer)
- Adoption of the Organizational Model of Management and Control ex D.Lgs . 231/01
- Study and inclusion of ESG objectives in the remuneration systems of AD and Managers
- Progressive expansion of the sustainability reporting perimeter to fully cover the Group subsidiaries
