Recognized as the last major independent brokerage house of its era, First Marathon Inc. was acquired by National Bank of Canada via a plan of arrangement agreed upon in June 1999. This acquisition integrated the firm's operations into the National Bank structure, marking the end of its tenure as an independent entity.
