'बेस्ट'च्या ताफ्यातील संख्या मात्र आता केवळ २,२०० पर्यंत उरली आहे. त्यामूळे 'बेस्ट' केवळ नावापूरती उरली
''बसेससह ड्रायव्हर–कंडक्टर भाड्याचे राहणार असल्याने सर्व्हिसमध्ये आहेत. खरे तर हा धोरणात्मक निर्णय आले आहेत. भाड्याच्या बसेस
रचला. कंत्राटी कंडक्टर घेऊन ४०० कर्मचाऱ्यांपुरता प्रश्न मर्यादित नाही, तर एका बसमागे आठ कर्मचारी याप्रमाणे २,४०० कर्मचाऱ्यांच्या नोकरीवर गदा येणार आहेच; पण एकूण १६ हजार कर्मचारी बाद ठरणार आहेत. 'बेस्ट' बसेसचे ५२० मार्ग होते. पण, बसेस कमी झाल्याने आणि कामगार भरती न केल्याने १५० मार्ग कमी होऊन आता ३७० मार्गच शिल्लक राहिले आहेत,'' असे 'बेस्ट' समिती सदस्य सूनील गणाचार्य यांनी यावेळी सांगितले.

कुटील कारस्थान ''मागील ७४ वर्षे 'बेस्ट' सक्षम होती. मात्र, खासगीकरणाचा कुटील डाव रचून 'बेस्ट'ला क्षीण बनविले आहे. 'बेस्ट'च्या ताब्यात ३,३३७ बसेस असून त्या पूर्णपणे चालल्या पाहिजेत. पण, तसे होत नाही. ४,५०० कर्मचारी निवृत्त झाले. पण, त्यांच्याऐवजी भरती नाही. आठ हजार कंत्राटी कर्मचाऱ्यांची भरती करण्यात आली. विभागप्रमुखही हंगामी भरण्यात
होता. पण, सत्ताधाऱ्यांनी विरोधकांशी चालवताना 'बेस्ट'च्या ताफ्यातील २,२०० बसेस आगारात उभ्या ठेवण्यात येत आहेत. त्यामूळे कामगारही बसून आहेत. निवृत्त कर्मचाऱ्यांचे ४०० कोटी रुपये थकीत आहेत. 'कोविड'काळात अत्यावश्यक सेवा बजावलेल्यांपैकी $90$ कामगारांचा मृत्यू झाला. त्यांच्या नातेवाइकांना नुकसानभरपाई 'कोविड'काळात नाही. उलट 'लॉकडाऊन'मूळे कामावर येऊ न शकलेल्या ३,५०० कर्मचाऱ्यांच्या वेतनात कपात करण्यात आली आणि अत्यावश्यक सेवा बजावलेल्या कामगारांना 'कोविड'भत्ताही देण्यात आलेला नाही.'' असे अरविंद कानगीकर म्हणाले.
