Semcon invest in offshore industry and opens new office in Lidköping

Semcon is extending its offer for the offshore industry, one of the company's important growth sectors. Fifteen specialists have been employed who have extensive experience of international offshore projects and expertise in developing accommodation modules for oilrigs. In connection with the investment Semcon is opening a new office in Lidköping, where the company is also aiming to acquire more local customers in the energy and environmental sectors.

Semcon has provided specialist expertise in sub-sea and other marine systems, plus production and drilling for some time. The new investment in expertise in accommodation modules for oilrigs, known as "Living Quarters", complements Semcon's current offer for the offshore industry well. The specialists will start by mainly working towards Norway, the USA and Asia.

"The specialist group has its background from Emtunga Offshore AB and has been part of and carried out many accommodation projects on oil platforms around the world for many years," says Toni Lind, project manager at Semcon.

Semcon undertakes different types of projects for the offshore industry – from pilot studies to starting-up finished constructions. A specific team with the appropriate specialist skills is created for each assignment, for example in project management, planning, steel and pipe construction and architecture. When required, Semcon also helps with all undertakings and carries out the complete project.

"Through the new investment we can offer a complete delivery with specialist expertise in all disciplines and besides this we have extensive experience of the rigorous demands placed by the offshore industry globally," says Håkan Kristiansen, responsible for Semcon's new establishment in Lidköping.

Today, around 60 engineers work directly with offshore projects from Semcon's offices in Göteborg and Lidköping. The aim is to also work with local customers in the energy and environment sectors from the new office in Lidköping, which can contribute to further job opportunities.
