In March, SAS achieved growth in passenger numbers and an improvement in unit revenue
2.5 million passengers travelled with SAS in March, an increase of some 70 000
compared to last year. Higher yield compensated for a lower passenger load
factor, resulting in an improved unit revenue.
Compared to March 2018, capacity and the number of passengers in scheduled
traffic increased by 1.1% and 3.1%, respectively. On SAS' scheduled traffic, a
slightly lower load factor was offset by a higher yield (+5.3% currency
adjusted), which resulted in an improved unit revenue compared to last year.
During the month, European/Intrascandinavian and Intercontinental traffic fell
while Domestic increased. The timing of Easter is the main driver of the change,
as traffic related to Easter is postponed into April.
- As we move towards spring and summer, we continue to adjust our production
towards the summer high season. This includes opening 22 new direct routes and 6
new destinations from Scandinavia in summer 2019, which I hope our customers
will appreciate. I would also like to remind everyone that we carbon offset all
SAS tickets for our EuroBonus members, and encourage all customers that are not
members of the program to enroll in order to contribute towards more sustainable
travel, says Rickard Gustafson, CEO of SAS.
