Oslo, 5 April 2016 - Multiconsult ASA selected as Project Implementation Consultant for Zanzibar Energy Sector Support Project Consolidation Phase.

The SEK 22 million project is part of a Swedish International Development

Cooperation Agency (SIDA) supported programme.

The Zanzibar Energy Sector Support Project will be implemented by Multiconsult

under contract to the Ministry of Lands, Housing, Water and Energy (MLHWE) of

the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.

The three-year project supports institutional strengthening of the Department of

Energy and Minerals (DoEM) and the Zanzibar Electricity Corporation (ZECO), in

addition to the purchase of energy meters and fault detection equipment.

The Multiconsult led consortium will support DoEM and the Directorate of

Planning, Policy and Research (DPPR) in the preparation of an Energy Efficiency

Master Plan and development of a new Energy Act. The Norwegian Embassy in

Tanzania has been supporting construction of the electricity grid throughout the

Islands of Zanzibar for three decades. Multiconsult is currently supporting ZECO

to develop capacity for grid maintenance; and the current SIDA supported project

will complement these efforts.
