Metro Mining Appoints China Marketing Expert

Metro Mining Limited ( Metro Mining, ASX: MMI ) has appointed Hong Kong based mining executive Mr Norman Ting to the position of General Manager Marketing, Asia.

An industry veteran with over thirty years’ experience, Mr Ting previously served as Chairman for Traxys China where he traded a range of products; predominantly bauxite. Mr Ting has also held a senior executive position with Ausenco, China.

From 1985 to 2009 Mr Ting served in several executive positions with WOGEN plc in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong & China – this included representing Comalco (Rio Tinto Alcan) Bauxite and Alumina in Beijing. Between 1991 and 1994 Mr Ting was Technical Marketing Manager, Bauxite and Alumina for Comalco, and was based in Brisbane.

Metro Mining CEO Simon Finnis says Mr Ting’s appointment represented a significant milestone in introducing the company’s Bauxite Hills Project to the Asian market.

“While Off-take Agreement discussions with Shandong Xinfa Group continue to progress well, we have always recognised the importance of a marketing presence in China,” Mr Finnis said.

“We believe direct representation in the marketplace is key to maximising our opportunities across international markets and Mr Ting has extensive commercial, industrial and technical knowledge of Chinese and Western mining industries having been involved in many projects worldwide”.

The Bauxite Hills Project on Cape York, north of Weipa is a 61.5Mtpa* direct shipping indicated and inferred resource with an estimated 21 year mine life.

Mr Finnis said the company remains on schedule to commence mining operations in Q3, next year.
