General Manager The Company Announcements Office Australian Securities Exchange Limited Australia Square Sydney NSW 1215
Dear Sir/Madam,
MARKET UPDATE
Safety Medical Products Limited (ASX: SFP) is pleased to announce the lodging of Patent and Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) Certification Applications for its new Pen Needle Aid Device.
This unique new device makes the task of attaching, recapping, removing and disposing of all brands of insulin pen needles much safer and easier.
Currently people with diabetes must recap pen needles after injecting, in order to unscrew the needle from the insulin pen exposing them to the chance of a needlestick injury. This injury potential also exists where Health Industry Workers administer the injections to patients and similarly must recap the needles after use.
This device allows for a secure grip of the pen needle cap, making it easier to remove the cap prior to injecting. The cap remains held in the Pen Needle Aid whilst the injection is completed and the needle is then simply inserted into the cap at completion of the injection, unscrewed and disposed of.
With correct use, fingers are at all times kept clear of the needle, greatly reducing the chance of accidental needlestick injury.
The SafetyMed Pen Needle Aid is very easy to use and is suitable for use with all brands of pen needles. It is made from soft but durable rubber and is designed to be re-used as a valuable tool during Insulin Pen use.
Extensive world wide patent searches have revealed no such similar device is available and SafetyMed will move quickly to promote this exciting new product with distributors overseas. With over 270million people with diabetes worldwide, growing annually, there is huge potential for this exciting new product.
Upon TGA Certification, expected in July, SafetyMed will promote the Pen Needle Aid in Australia and New Zealand alongside the Company’s range of Insulin Pen Needles that will be available through the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) from July 1[st] .
