APPOINTMENT OF CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
25 September 2007
Safety Medical Products Limited (“SafetyMed” or “the Company”) (ASX Code: SFP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Tony Mitchell as Chief Financial Officer of the Company. Mr. Mitchell is a CPA, holds an MBA from Deakin University and has approximately 20 years of business experience in pharmaceuticals/biotechnology and consumer goods.
Until recently Mr. Mitchell was the CFO and Company Secretary of GroPep Limited, an ASX-listed biotechnology company. GroPep was acquired by Novozymes A/S of Denmark in December 2006 and Mr. Mitchell left the organisation following the completion of the integration process in June 2007.
Prior to joining GroPep in 2003, Mr. Mitchell held the position VP Finance for Mayne Pharma, the global pharmaceutical business of Mayne Group Limited. In this position Mr. Mitchell was responsible for the financial management of the business which had annual sales revenue of approximately $500 million.
Mr. Mitchell said, “I am looking forward to working with the SafetyMed Board and management team to finalise planning for production of the Company’s SecureTouch retractable safety syringe and the commencement of commercialisation”.
SafetyMed CEO & Managing Director Mr. John Riemelmoser said, “we are delighted to have Tony join SafetyMed at this exciting stage of the Company’s development and we are confident that he will make a significant contribution to its growth in the years ahead”.
Mr. Mitchell has been working with SafetyMed on a part-time basis over the last two months, primarily to assist with preparation of the Company’s annual report and the recently announced Rights Issue. Following this announcement he will now be involved on a full-time basis. In addition to having the responsibilities normally associated with the position of CFO, Mr. Mitchell will also work closely with CEO, Mr. John Riemelmoser in managing the commercial development of the Company’s technologies and existing businesses.
