PRIMA BIOMED SECURES CHINESE PATENT FOR ONCOMAB CANCER ANTIBODY TREATMENT

Australian health care company Prima BioMed (Prima) (ASX: PRR) is pleased to announce that its subsidiary company, Oncomab Pty Ltd, has received Notification of Grant from the Chinese Patent Office for its cancer antibody antigen Cripto-1.

The new granted patent protects the use of a cancer antibody antigen, Cripto-1.

Cripto-1 is a protein found in high levels on the surface of many different kinds of cancer cells and is also found in the blood stream of cancer patients. The antibody works by binding to the Cripto-1 molecule and interfering with cell signalling, which results in the death of the cancer cell. The antibody may additionally be coupled to cytotoxic drugs to deliver an even more lethal combination of drug and cell signal to cancer cells.

Prima’s Cripto-1 antibody was recently published in the highly regarded British Journal of Medicine.

The new Patent number is ZL02807317.7 and is titled, Antibodies against Cancer and expires in March 2021. Importantly, the patent has also been granted in Australia, New Zealand and the USA.

Prima is currently in negotiations to secure a major pharmaceutical co-development partner to bring Cripto-1 into commercialisation.

Prima executive director, Martin Rogers, said he was delighted with the grant of patent for Oncomab, which complements the recent success the Company has achieved with its core product, the CVac™ ovarian cancer vaccine therapy treatment.
