IMMURON ALLOWED TRAVELAN PATENT IN THE UNITED STATES

Wednesday 23 October 2013, Melbourne, Australia: Immuron Limited (ASX:IMC) today announced that it has received a Notice of Allowance for a key patent by the United States Patents and Trademarks Office (USPTO). Immuron’s patent claims are directed to methods of treating enteric diseases caused by gram negative bacteria with the use of Immuron’s hyperimmune colostrum platform technology.

Enteric diseases include those caused by pathogens entering the body through the mouth or gastrointestinal system. A large group of such bacteria includes Escherichia coli (E. coli), Salmonella, Shigella, Helicobacter and Legionella. These bacteria have been implicated in chronic diseases such as Irritable Bowel Disease and Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis, known as NASH. Hence, the breadth of Immuron’s patent protection encompasses Travelan® as well as a range of other products.

The global markets for treatment of these chronic diseases is estimated in the order of magnitude of $Billions annually. Immuron’s patent is expected to support Immuron’s competitive advantages in these markets.
