IMMURON APPOINTS CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Melbourne 5 March 2012: Au s tralian bio p harmaceu t ical comp a ny Immur o n Limited ( A SX: IMC) announces th e appointm e nt of Mr J o e Baini as C hief Execu t ive Office r, effective immedia t ely. Previ o usly he held the posit i on in an in t erim capa c ity. His on g oing appoint m ent ensur e s uninterr u pted prog r ess of the c ompany’s c ommercia l isation an d develop m ent activities.
Mr Baini was appoi n ted Interi m CEO in Ja n uary 2011 and has be e n instrum e ntal in transfor m ing the co m pany over the last 1 2 months. U nder his guidance Immuron initiated and finalis e d the licen s e agreem e nt with Paladin Labs f o r Travelan , obtained IND approval from the FDA in the USA for Im m uron’s NA S H/Fatty Liver product (IMM‐124 E ), and gen e rated stro n g interest f rom major overseas c o mpanies i n both pro d ucts.
As well, r esearch and develop m ent has pr o gressed f o r other po s sible prod u cts to prevent and trea t influenza a nd C. diffi c ile infectio n s, through agreemen t s with the U niversity o f Melbour n e and Mo n ash Unive r sity, respe c tively.
Announcing the ap p ointment, c ompany C h airman Pr o fessor Colin Chapma n said “Joe’ s leadersh i p over the past year has been pi v otal to Im m uron’s co m mercial a n d product develop m ent strate g y, and the Board is d e lighted to h ave secur e d his ongo i ng service s . Joe’s experience wi t h local and global pha r maceutical companies will be es p ecially importa n t as Immu r on escalat e s negotiati o ns with multi‐nation a l compani e s.”
Mr Baini has over 2 0 years exp e rience in t h e pharma c eutical industry, focu s ed on commer c ialisation, including marketing, s a les, partn e rships, gov e rnment a n d licensing negotiations. He is t he former General M a nager of Gilead Scien c es Austral i a, New Zealand a nd Asia, o n e of the la r gest biopharmaceuti c al companies in the w o rld. During his five‐year tenure, Gilead tra n sformed f r om a fledg l ing organisation into a major pla y er within the infectiou s diseases m arkets. M r Baini has also held s e nior com m ercial manage m ent positi o ns at Bayer Australia, Pharmacia & Upjohn a nd Merck, and was Chairma n of Avexa L td.
Mr Baini, in accepti n g the app o intment, s a id: “While there are c h allenges ahead, Imm u ron has never been in a better posi t ion with it s product pipeline. There is growing interes t in both Tra v elan and I M M‐124E, w ith comm e rcial discu s sions and n egotiatio n s already underwa y with mul t inational c o mpanies. I look forw a rd to cont i nuing the w ork with Immuro n 's outstan d ing team t o commerc i alise new p roducts and expand m arkets.”
