IMMURON ANNOUNCES IMPORTANT ADDITIONS TO BOARD
-
Appointment of Dr Roger Aston as Non‐Executive Director
- CEO Joe Baini appointed as Executive Director
25 May 2012, Melbourne, Australia: Australian biopharmaceutical company Immuron Limited ( ASX: IMC ) has appointed Dr Roger Aston as Non‐Executive Director and its Chief Executive, Joe Baini, as Executive Director. These appointments reflect Immuron’s increasing commercial focus and are effective immediately.
“ Dr Aston is one of the most senior and best respected individuals in the biopharmaceutical world, with significant experience in manufacturing clinical development and commercialisation ,” said Immuron’s Chairman, Professor Colin Chapman. “ We were seeking the best possible individual to support and complement the board and the company’s objectives. We firmly believe Dr Aston is that person .”
The Immuron Board now has a formidable blend of skills and experience appropriate for a company in rapid and transformative growth.
Dr Aston was recently appointed to the board of IDT. Prior to that he was founding CEO of Mayne Pharma Group after leading HalcyGen’s acquisition of Mayne Limited in 2009. He has experience with FDA and EU product registration, clinical trials, global licensing agreements, fundraising through private placements and preparation of prospectuses. He has a strong network in the pharmaceutical, banking and stock broking sectors.
Dr Aston has held numerous other directorships/chairmanships in the sector, including Clinuvel Limited (ASX:CUV), HalcyGen Limited (now Mayne Pharma Group) (ASX:MYX) and Ascent Pharma Health Limited (ASX:APH), recently acquired by Watson Inc.
Dr Aston said, “ I am delighted to be joining Immuron at such a pivotal time in its shift to commercialisation and exploitation of its novel platform. The company’s valuable technology platform is of particular interest since it correlates with work on antibody therapy that I first undertook at Cambridge Antibody Technology and then at Peptech. Added to this I see enormous potential for Immuron to bring forward unique medicines in life threatening diseases, beginning with NASH/fatty liver .”
Professor Chapman said, “ We are also pleased to announce Joe Baini, Chief Executive, as Executive Director. Joe’s addition to the Board will further improve operational responsiveness and ensures that we have appropriate skills to pursue our major objectives including licensing Travelan globally, continuing negotiations in relation to the NASH/fatty liver product and ensuring the ongoing development of our product pipeline .”
