  • Issued Australian patent for anti-Influenza product to 2028

  • Endorses Immuron’s pursuit of global patent coverage

Melbourne Australia 1 March 2011 – Melbourne-based clinical stage biopharmaceutical company Immuron Limited has been granted the Australian patent for its influenza preventative product candidate (Imm-255).

Immuron’s influenza product will potentially be the world’s first orally administered product for mucosal protection against influenza viruses. The safety profile of this product emanating from Immuron’s platform technology allows for the potential acceleration to market.

The patent, granted by the Australian Patents Office, contains claims for treatment and inhibition of influenza infection by applying anti-influenza antibodies to oral and respiratory surfaces.

Immuron’s antibody approach may provide a broader protection against Influenza viruses since it is designed to cope with rapidly changing strains as viruses evolve.

The patent provides protection through to the year 2028 and is an important part of Immuron’s objective to maintain proprietary value for its influenza program. This patent term, coupled with the safety profile may result in many years of patent protection during the commercialisation phase of the product.
