Commencement of Phase 2 Clinical Trial for Metabolic Syndrome

Immuron announces that formal approval has been received for the initial human clinical trial of Immuron’s antibody-based formulation against metabolic syndrome. The trial will be conducted at the Hadassah Medical Centre clinical trials unit in Jerusalem.

Metabolic syndrome affects around 9% of the Western World and there are few treatment options currently available to physicians.

The anticipated Immuron product, having a high safety profile, will assist in meeting unmet needs in the multi-billion dollar market for the treatment of this condition.

The recruiting process will commence in January, with the trial commencing by March 2010 and scheduled for completion by mid 2010.

The trial will have 10 participants who will have common manifestations of metabolic syndrome; in particular, fatty liver disease and diabetes type 2. The trial will measure the effectiveness of Immuron’s oral formulation in improving a range of key markers of metabolic syndrome, such as insulin resistance, glucose metabolism, and blood lipid levels.

The positive results of Immuron’s antibody-based oral immunotherapy in animal models of fatty liver disease generated a great deal of scientific interest when recently presented at a major conference of the American Association for Study of Liver Disease in Boston a few weeks ago.
