IMMURON LIMITED APPOINTS NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Melbourne 17 January 2010: Res p ected biotechnology executive Joe B aini has be e n appointe d Interim C h ief Executi v e Officer(CEO) of Melbourne biopharmaceutical company I m muron Limited (ASX: IMC).

Mr Baini, Non‐Executive Chairma n of biotech n ology company Avexa L t d, will assis t Immuron b y focusing o n developing new mark e ts for Trav e lan® and on building op p ortunities f or its extre m ely promisin g first‐in‐clas s biopharmaceutical pro d uct to trea t fatty liver d isease, also known as n o n‐ alcoholic s teatohepat i tis (NASH), o ne of the m ost commo n liver disea s es in the w e stern world and associate d with obesi t y, diabetes a nd hyperli p idaemia; th e re is currently no effec t ive treatme n t for NASH.

Immuron’s current CEO, Dr Grant Rawlin, will c ontinue in t he new rol e of Chief Sci e ntific Offic e r, with his k e y immedia t e responsib i lities being m anagement of the crucial clinical t r ials associat e d with the l i ver disease / NASH prod u ct, manage m ent of the influenza pr o ject, and o v erall management of Imm u ron’s platform technol o gy.

Announci n g the chan g es, Immuron’s chairma n Professor C olin Chapm a n said thes e are impor t ant as Immur o n moves in t o the next s tage of its d e velopment.

“These ar e exciting ti m es for Immuron,” Prof e ssor Chapm a n said. “O u r product p i peline is ra p idly advancin g and we ha v e a promisi n g late phas e II trial pro g ram planne d in 2011 fo r the Compa n y’s main dru g candidate. Engaging a p erson of Mr Baini’s calibre will ena b le Immuro n to rapidly g ain momentum.”

Mr Baini b r ings more t h an 20 year s of biophar m aceutical experience t o Immuron, especially in the com m ercial aren a which is i m portant at this phase of the Compa n y’s growth.

Mr Baini p reviously s e rved as General Manag e r for biotec h nology co m pany Gilea d Sciences in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. During his fi v e year ten u re, Gilead u n derwent si g nificant growth as it trans f ormed fro m a fledgling organisatio n to a major player withi n the infecti o us disease s markets.

Mr Baini s aid he was l o oking forw a rd to the o p portunities presented b y Immuron, and predicted 2011 would be a land m ark year f o r the Comp a ny.

“It is thrilling to lead a company w hich alread y has Travel a n in the ma r ket and has an existing platform t echnology, he said.

“I look fo r ward to wo r king with I m muron's ou t standing team in bringi n g new pro d ucts to mar k et. The Com p any is parti c ularly enth u siastic about the comp o und in development for NASH. Our influenza project is al s o extremel y promising a nd genuine excitement exists regar d ing the potential o f a new ap p roach to control this hi g hly infectio u s disease.”

Dr Rawlin said the move to Chief S cientific Of f icer would e nable him t o focus on h i s real passi o n – the scien c e and innov a tions associated with I m muron’s pl a tform tech n ology.

“The Company has a u nique opportunity to d e velop new b iopharmac e utical prod u cts,” he sai d . “And I lo o k forward t o working wi t h Mr Baini t o see these products commercialis e d. Because o f the natur e of Immuron’s platform technology , it is possibl e to bring bi o pharmace u tical produ c ts to market much more rapidly than if they were t r aditional s m all molecul e pharmace u ticals.”
