AIX passenger numbers for the month and quarter ended 31 December 2011

Australian Infrastructure Fund (AIX) today reported passenger numbers for its airport portfolio for the month and quarter ended 31 December 2011.

Overall, AIX-weighted passenger numbers were steady in the December month and recorded slight growth of 0.1 percent in the December quarter, compared to the previous corresponding periods (pcp). International traffic grew 3.2 percent and 3.3 percent for the month and quarter respectively on pcp.

AIX’s Australian airports experienced overall growth of 0.3 percent in the quarter compared to the pcp, with international traffic growing 4.7 percent in the quarter.[1]

Domestic traffic experienced an overall decline of 0.7 percent for both the month and quarter, however Perth Airport was an exception with strong growth of 6.8 percent and 8.4 percent for the month and quarter respectively.

AIX’s German airports continued to achieve strong international numbers and maintained overall growth, while the wider economic uncertainty in Greece continued to affect Athens Airport.

AIX Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Pollock, said: “The AIX passenger numbers are tracking as expected, reflecting the wider operating environment and the fact that we are comparing against strong growth figures achieved in the previous corresponding period. The diverse nature of the AIX airport portfolio is proving to be a strength in the current environment and Perth Airport continues to be a stand-out performer with strong results in both domestic and international traffic numbers.”

The table below highlights the year on year December month comparisons and details for the December quarter and year to date are attached:
