Flexiroam will enable third party push notifications to be developed on the app, opening up new revenue stream for the Company
Flexiroam Limited (FRX:ASX) (“FLEXIROAM” or “the Company”) is pleased to announce that via its wholly owned subsidiary Flexiroam Sdn Bhd it has been offered a grant amounting to RM300,000.00 (~A$100,000) from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission ("MCMC"), under the Creative Industry Development Fund. The grant is subject to completion of a formal agreement between FLEXIROAM and the MCMC and will be paid to FLEXIROAM upon the completion of development milestones.
The grant will be used to subsidise the R&D and pre-commercialisation marketing activities cost for Flexiroam Travel App - a mobile application that keeps travellers in touch and connected with their contacts overseas.
“We are very pleased to have been awarded a government grant for the development of FLEXIROAM’s new app. This award validates our excellent growth potential and reinforces our ongoing commitment to deliver optimal outcomes with mobile roaming technology,” said Jef Ong, CEO of FLEXIROAM.
Under the terms of the agreement, FLEXIROAM will need to enable local embassies and merchants to broadcast announcements to travellers in real-time. As such FLEXIROAM will offer subscribers a choice to receive push notifications from merchants.
This will provide FLEXIROAM with new revenue streams, as embassies and merchants will have to purchase the capability to advertise on the platform. FLEXIROAM aims to broadcast the announcements upon a traveller’s arrival to certain countries.
“Not only will the Flexiroam Travel App offer subscribers an affordable means to communicate abroad, it will also provide FLEXIROAM with additional revenue streams, enabling us to develop new services for consumers. With the number of budget travellers continuing to increase in Asia and roaming costs remaining excessive, there is a clear need for affordable roaming solutions. The support we have received from the Government is a strong endorsement of FLEXIROAM’s potential to continue developing innovative technology solutions, positioning us as leaders in the mobile roaming market,” said Ong.
MCMC is the regulating authority governing the communications and multimedia industries in Malaysia. The function of MCMC includes, economic regulation, technical regulation, consumer protection, social regulation and promoting the development of capabilities and skills within Malaysia's convergence industries. FLEXIROAM is an Application Service Provider license holder, awarded by MCMC. This license
allows FLEXIROAM to provide voice services, data services, Internet access and conduct electronic commerce activities.
