ASX RELEASE

Encouraging Manganese and Iron Ore drilling results at Waddikee.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • 45 holes completed totalling 2306 metres

  • High-grade manganese up to 29% Mn reported from Polinga prospect

  • Further encouraging iron ore results

Monax Mining (ASX: MOX) is pleased t o announc e the results of its r e cent drilli n g progra m targeting m anganese and iron o r e at its Wa d dikee Project in Sout h Australia.

The rever s e circulati o n (RC)/rotary air bla s t (RAB) d r illing program was c o mpleted in early Apri l and final a ssay resu l ts have n o w been received. A total of 45 holes we r e complet e d for 230 6 metres.

Monax’s W addikee Project is lo c ated south of the tow n ship of Ki m ba on the c entral Eyr e Peninsul a of South A ustralia (Figure 1). It is the sub j ect of a farm-in agre e ment with OM (Man g anese) Lt d (OMM), a wholly ow n ed subsidi a ry of OM H oldings Limited (AS X :OMH). O M M is requ i red to fun d A$2 millio n over four y ears to ac q uire a 60 % participat i ng interest for manga n ese (Mn) a nd iron or e on the pro j ect.

Manganese Results

Jamieson Tank

Monax co m pleted a gradient a r ray induced polarisat i on (GAIP) survey ov e r the Jamieson Tan k prospect i n early 201 2 , aimed at defining fu r ther possi b le manganese. Under th e current drilling program, Mon a x complet e d 19 hol e s (JTRC 1 82-200) f o r 930m a t Jamieson T ank. Fig u re 2 shows a general l ocation plan for the 2 0 12 drilling p rogram.

Figure 3 shows in de t ail the loc a tion of all d rilling to d a te within t h e souther n part of th e Jamieso n Tank pros p ect over t h e newly a c quired GAIP data. Drill hole intersections > 1 4% Mn ar e outlined i n Table 1.

Holes JT R C 182 – 187 were d r illed to test a moder a te charge a ble featur e (see Figu r e 3) whic h previous d rilling to t h e south h a d interse c ted moder a te manga n ese. Tw o holes on the line o f recent hol e s reported one metre intersectio n s of mang a nese >14 % (JTRC 1 8 6 & 187).

Hole JTR C 186 reported 6m @ 12.4% Mn (26-32m) i ncluding 1 m @ 17.3 % Mn (see Table 2 fo r individual 1m results). Hole J T RC 187 r e ported 5 m @ 14.0% Mn (32-3 7 m – see T able 2 fo r individual 1 m results).

Holes JT R C 188-191 were drill e d to targe t a narrow z one of hi g her charg e ability. N o significan t mangane s e was re p orted fro m these ho l es. Thes e holes in t ersected m agnetic banded iro n formation.

Figure 4 s hows in d e tail drill hole location s for the n o rthern part of the Ja m ieson Tank prospect . This area contains t h e majorit y of the drilling and t h e best intersections of manga n ese at th e prospect.

The GAIP survey at J amieson Tank report e d some challenges d u e to charg e able features both o n the easter n and west e rn side of the survey area (see Figure 4), w hich the C ompany in t erprets ar e due to gra p hite-rich s e diments.

Holes JT R C 192-19 4 were targeting a N W trending c hargeable zone (Fig u re 4). N o significan t mangane s e was inte r sected but graphite w a s reported in holes J T RC 192 (30-61m) an d JTRC 19 3 (18-51m) ( Note – do w nhole lengths, true wi d ths unkno w n).

Holes JT R C 195 – 1 9 7 were targeting a z o ne of high e r chargea b ility locate d on the w e stern zon e and inters e cted low grade mang a nese. Th e se holes also reporte d minor graphite.

Holes JT R C 198 – 1 9 9 were lo c ated on a c hargeable feature 550m north of outcroppi n g massiv e mangane s e at Cultiv a tor Hill (Fi g ure 4). Hole JTRC 1 9 8 reported 2m @ 15. 5 % Mn (21- 2 3m).

Hole JTR C 200 was d rilled to t e st a charg e able featu r e on the e a stern part of the Jamieson Tan k prospect. No manga n ese was r e ported, bu t minor gra p hite was i n tersected b etween 40-51m (Not e – downhole length, tr u e width unknown).

Prior to th e current d r illing progr a m, Monax had completed drillin g 157 hole s at its Jamieson Tank , which is p a rt of the W addikee P r oject, for a total of 87 7 8 metres. The best p revious drilling result s for the Ja m ieson Tan k prospect i nclude (all previously reported):  10 m @ 17.5 % Mn (JTR C 069 26-36m)

  • 7 m @ 18.03 % Mn (JTR C 034 14-21m)

  • 7 m @ 17.1% M n (JTRC 1 21 22-29 m )  5 m @ 19.2% M n (JTRC 1 19 14-19 m )  4 m @ 23.05 % Mn (JTR C 032 4-8m)  3 m @ 27.7% M n (JTRC 0 36 10-13 m )  12 m @ 15.3 % Mn (JTR C 032 4-16m) (holes drilled 60[o] ; downhole lengths onl y , true widt h s unknow n )

Polinga

New infor m ation fro m the GAIP at Polinga survey ha s lead Mon a x to re-ex a mine previous drillin g strategies.

Fifteen holes (PRC 0 18 – PRC 032) were completed at Poling a in April 2 0 12 (Figur e 5). Hole s PRC 018 – 022 wer e drilled to target a s ignificant c hargeable feature. M inor manganese wa s intersecte d . Holes PRC 018 to PRC 0 2 0 all rep o rted thick intersectio n s of graphite schist . Samples f r om these h oles have b een submitted for ca r bon analyses.

Drill holes PRC 023 PRC 032 were drille d to test a m oderate chargeable f eature outlined by th e GAIP sur v ey (Figure 5). Holes PRC 024 a nd PRC 0 2 5 on the northern lin e reported m anganes e >14% (se e Table 1). Hole PR C 024 repo r ted 5m @ 15.0% Mn (26-31m) i n cluding 1 m @ 28.7 % Mn (27-28m – see T a ble 2 for in d ividual 1m results).

Hole PRC 025 reported 3m @ 1 7.6% Mn ( 28-31m) including 1m @ 21.8% Mn (29-30 m ), and 1 m @ 29.16 % Mn (48- 4 9m – see Table 1). Hole PR C 030 on t h e souther n line reported 4m @ 14.89% M n (49-53m) including 1m @ 20.9 % Mn (52-5 3 m – see T a ble 2 for i n dividual 1 m results).

Prior to th e recent drilling progr a m, Monax h ad drilled 17 holes a t its Poling a prospect, also part o f the Waddi k ee Projec t , for a total of 984 metres. The b e st manga n ese result s include:  4m @ 18.9% M n (PRC00 3 32-36m)  4m @ 14.2% M n (PRC01 0 50-54m) (holes drilled 60[o] ; do w nhole lengths only, tr u e widths unknown; re s ults previ o usly report e d)

Hodgins

Six holes t otalling 30 1 metres w e re drilled a t the Hod g ins prospect in 2011 t o follow u p high grad e surface s a mples gra d ing up to 3 7% Mn. A further eleven holes for 490m w ere completed at th e Hodgins p r ospect. N o manganese was int e rsected with minor gr a phite repo r ted in several holes.

Iron Ore Results

The drilling program also returned encouraging iron ore resul t s from th e Jamieso n Tank an d Polinga p r ospects. A t the Jami e son Tank prospect, t he best re s ults include (see Ta b le 3 for ful l results):  28 m @ 24.3 % Fe (JTRC 191 21-49 m )  14 m @ 27.1 % Fe (JTRC 188 14-28 m )  12 m @ 23.7 % Fe (JTRC 190 23-35 m ).

  • The best r esults fro m the Polinga prospect include:  26 m @ 41.5% Fe (PRC 0 28 4-30m)  28 m @ 25% Fe (PRC 02 7 37-65m)

  • 21 m @ 29.4% Fe (PRC 0 26 25-46m

General

In summar y , the drilli n g program has provid e d further e ncouragin g mangane s e and iron ore result s and additional e vidence s u pporting t h e previously announc e d graphite potential o f the Waddikee Projec t .

The GAIP survey en c ountered z ones of hi g h charge a bility on b o th the we s t and east margins of the main man g anese co r ridor. Th e eastern zone of h i gh charge a bility app e ars to be related t o the Sugarloaf Hill zone of high cha r geability, w hich is m o st likely d u e to the p resence o f graphite. Drill holes withi n the zone s of high ch a rgeability o n the east e rn side of J amieson T ank report e d graphite.

The GAIP survey pro v ided som e encourag e ment at t h e Polinga prospect w ith drilling o n the sou t hern area whic h containe d a zone of moderate chargeabil i ty reportin g mangan e se (Figure 5). Consi s tent with the G A IP survey, drilling on t he norther n highly ch a rgeable fe a ture repor t ed graphit e .

The GAIP survey dat a will be u s eful in the search for graphite o n the tene m ent and t o gether wit h the existing Monax airborne electr o magnetic d ata will b e a major tool used in plannin g the upco m ing graphite drilling progr a m.
