Board Changes – Reg Nelson to join FAR board
FAR Ltd (ASX: FAR) proposes to appoint one of the Australian petroleum industry’s most significant figures, Mr Reg Nelson, to its board.
FAR Ltd chairman, Nic Limb, said, “Reg Nelson will be a major addition to the board of FAR. His knowledge, in both a technical and commercial sense, will be of immense value to the board as FAR moves further into the appraisal and exploitation phase following the significant discoveries offshore Senegal. He is widely respected across the petroleum industry and within commercial and government circles and is one of the true legends of the Australian resources sector. Reg’s commercial acumen, amply demonstrated by his success in transforming Beach Energy from near bankruptcy in the 1990’s into one of Australia’s leading oil and gas production companies, is a testimony to his capabilities. FAR has big ambition’s for growth and the creation of shareholder value and Reg Nelson will provide the company with knowledge and experience commensurate with those ambitions. We wholeheartedly welcome Reg to the board of FAR.”
Starting as an exploration geophysicist, Reg Nelson has had a career spanning nearly four decades in the petroleum and minerals industries. He is a former chairman of the Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association.
Reg Nelson has been recognised by both the petroleum and minerals industry, notably through honorary Life Membership of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (awarded in 1989), the Prime Minister’s Centenary Medal for services to the Australian mining industry (awarded in 2002) and APPEA’s Reg Sprigg Gold Medal (awarded in 2009) for outstanding services to the Australian oil and gas exploration and production industry. He has also been recognised for his support of environmental and conservation matters by the honorary award of Life Membership of Nature Foundation SA in 2010.
Reg Nelson has wide experience in technical, corporate and government affairs throughout Australia and internationally, particularly in the petroleum and mineral industries and was formerly Director of Mineral Development for the State of South Australia. He was a director of APPEA for eight years, as well as being the Chairman of its board of directors from 2004 to 2006.
FAR also advises that Mr Charles Cavness, a long serving director of 20 years will retire from the board and will not seek re-election at the Annual General Meeting on 15 May 2015.
FAR chairman Nic Limb said “Charles has been a long standing director of FAR and has seen it through its formative years. Charles is a resident of the United States where for many years FAR had operations and Charles over a long period made a significant contribution to the success of these operations. Importantly Charles was a strong supporter of the Company’s Senegal project during testing times and it is gratifying to see his faith and efforts rewarded with our success in Senegal. We wish Charles a successful future and sincerely thank him for his contribution.”
