MOVIES DRIVE STRONG EARNINGS GROWTH FOR AMALGAMATED

Major entertainment hospitality and leisure operator Amalgamated Holdings Limited “AHL” today announced net profit after tax for the 30 June 2013 year of $85.8 million. This represented an increase of 7.6% above the comparable prior year result. Normalised profit before finance costs, significant items and tax increased by 12.2% to $118.3 million.

In announcing the result, Managing Director Mr David Seargeant commented: “The slate of films opening through June this year was outstanding driving a record box office for the month across our territories of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Germany. The June month was a major driver of a very pleasing full year result. Major blockbuster movies for the year included The Dark Knight Rises, Skyfall, The Hobbit and Iron Man 3. ”

Mr Seargeant added: “Conditions, particularly in the second half, were quite tough in the Hotel segment with renewed pressure on room rate particularly from the corporate travel market. Thredbo enjoyed generally good conditions throughout the 2012 season and this was reflected in a strong profit contribution.”

AHL opened its flagship QT Sydney Hotel earlier in the year joining QT branded resorts at Port Douglas and Gold Coast and the recently acquired QT Falls Creek.

The AHL Chairman Mr Alan Rydge announced a final dividend of 27 cents per share taking the full year dividend to 42 cents, an increase of 3 cents or 7.7% over the prior year dividend. The dividend is fully franked.

AHL is the market leading cinema group in Australia and New Zealand operating primarily under the Event Cinemas brand and in Germany as the dominant exhibitor under the Cinestar brand. AHL is currently ranked the 9[th] largest cinema group globally. In the hotel and resort markets, AHL operates under the Rydges and QT brands and is soon to open the first of its new value brand Atura Hotels at Blacktown, Sydney. AHL also owns the Thredbo Alpine Resort and has significant property holdings.
