Amalgamated acquires Gold Coast International Hotel
The listed entertainment, hospitality and leisure operator Amalgamated Holdings Limited (AHD) today announced it had entered into a contract for the acquisition of the Gold Coast International Hotel for a purchase price of $56.5m, with settlement expected to occur on or around 10 September 2008.
The Gold Coast International Hotel is a 5 star, 296 room hotel which opened in 1987. It occupies approximately 11,320 square metres of freehold land in Surfers Paradise, Queensland.
In announcing the acquisition, the Managing Director of Amalgamated Mr David Seargeant said: “the acquisition of the Gold Coast International marks our long awaited return to the Gold Coast market”. He added “we look forward to further developing the local and international markets for the hotel, particularly in the conference and meetings segment and by utilising our rapidly growing Rydges PriorityGUEST club membership base.”
AHL is the parent of the Rydges hotel brand. Rydges currently operates 38 hotels throughout Australia and internationally in New Zealand, London and the Middle East.
AHD expects to announce its 2008 full year result later today.
