Data#3 expects another record first half result

Preliminary NPAT outlook up 40% on previous first half.

BRISBANE, Friday 4 November 2005. The Board of Directors of Data*3 Limited (ASX: DTL) announced at the Annual General Meeting today that the first quarter result was considerably ahead of plan, and when combined with the forecast to the half year, was expected to deliver another record first half result.

While dependent on a number of favourable customer decisions, and subject to the half year audit review, a NPBT of approximately \$3.8M is foreshadowed, 40% up on the previous first half. This translates to after tax earnings of approximately 17 cents per share, up from 12 cents.

Chairman Richard Anderson commented that the company was confident of solid trading results through to the half-year, and would be positioning for a strong full year.

Highlights:

  • Forecast NPBT of approximately \$3.8M up 40% on the previous corresponding period
  • Basic earnings per share of approximately 17 cents up from 12 cents
  • Significant contract wins announced with:
  • Brisbane City Council in partnership with HP, a new 4 year contract for the supply of PCs, laptops, printers and the associated services. The contract, won over competitors including Dell and Acer and including electronic tendering, is expected to generate revenue of \$8M per annum and will take to sixteen years Data*3's involvement as one of BCC's significant technology providers.
  • Suncorp a 2 year contract with a 1 year option as preferred supplier nationally of ICT product for IT Commercial and Domestic Claims for Suncorp Insurance. GIO Insurance and a range of Suncorp brokers. Data#3 defeated the incumbent, Harris Technology, and Dell, Getronics and Sony. The revenue from this contract, while difficult to estimate, is believed to be in the range \$5M to \$9M per annum.
  • Inco Australia Management a 3 year contract for ICT product and support services for Inco staff involved in the construction of nickel mines in Noumea and in Goro in New Caledonia, with anticipated revenue over \$1M AUD per annum. A second contract is currently in the final stages of negotiation to provide similar supply and support to Inco's subcontractors until late 2007 and thought to be at least equal in size to the first contract. To support these 2 contracts Data#3 is opening an office in New Caledonia and will look to grow its operations.
  • Brazin Limited (operators of the retail chains Sanity Entertainment, Virgin Entertainment, BNT (formally Bras' n' Things), Dome Exchange (Aztec Rose & Cheetah), EzyDVD, HMV and Dusk) - a 3 year remote management contract supporting over 1,000 users over 600 sites across Australia. With projected revenue of \$1M, the contract capitalises on Data#3's recent investment in new management software from NetIO.

Managing Director John Grant confirmed at the AGM that the company expected the market for its offerings to remain strong but competitive, and was projecting financial performance to improve considerably on the record 2005 result. "Last year in a relatively buoyant but competitive market, we reported 'best ever' earnings and a full year dividend up 23% on the previous corresponding period. With the outlook for the first half 40% up on last year, we are in great shape and well placed for another strong vear in 2006." he said.
