Botanix Pharmaceuticals Expands Management Team

  • Botanix Pharmaceuticals engages Chief Operating Officer to drive acne and other development programs

  • Appointment of experienced commercial and clinical development leader with unique track record in dermatology

  • Provides additional capability for upcoming clinical trials

Sydney, Australia; 14[th] February 2017: Medical dermatology company Botanix Pharmaceuticals (“Botanix” or “the Company”) announces the engagement of Dr Michael Thurn as Chief Operating Officer.

Dr Thurn has unique experience in drug development, having recently led development of a topical treatment for acne being developed by venture capital backed company Mimetica. As CEO of Mimetica, Dr Thurn successfully guided a melancortin-5 receptor targeting drug from pre-clinical testing through completion of a Phase 2 clinical trial. Before Mimetica, Dr Thurn worked with the Therapeutic Goods Administration and also led Spinifex Pharmaceuticals, which was recently sold to Novartis in a $700m transaction.

“We are very pleased to welcome Dr Thurn to the team”, Botanix Executive Director Matt Callahan commented, “Dr Thurn brings highly relevant experience and technical knowledge to the program which will help accelerate development of BTX1503 for acne, as well as our pipeline products.”

Engagement of Dr Thurn comes at an important time in the development of Botanix’s lead program for acne utilizing synthetic cannabidiol, as it is being readied for first clinical studies in 1H 2017.

“Dr Thurn’s experience in conducting studies in Australia and the U.S., combined with his extensive business contacts with a range of dermatology companies, will help us rapidly advance the Company’s pipeline of Permetrex™ enabled skin treatment products, as well as support our business development activities,” Mr Callahan commented.

Botanix recently announced an expansion of the license that the Company holds for the Permetrex drug delivery technology.
