Lord Sassoon

James Sassoon, born in 1955, is President of the China-Britain Business Council and Chair of The Sir John Soane's Museum. He was an Executive Director of Jardine Matheson Holdings and other Jardine group companies from 2013 to 2020. James was Commercial Secretary to the Treasury from 2010 to 2013 and a Managing Director in HM Treasury from 2002 to 2006 with responsibility for financial services and enterprise policy. He began his career at KPMG, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, before joining S.G. Warburg (later UBS Warburg) in 1985, becoming a Managing Director in 1995, leading the firm's industry sector, equity corporate finance and privatisation businesses. He joined the House of Lords on becoming a Minister in 2010. He was educated at Oxford University, where he read Philosophy, Politics and Economics.
