AMMG’s technology produces >99.9% high purity alumina (HPA)
AMMG developed a unique processing technology for the production of high purity alumina (HPA) using aluminous clay (kaolin).
The process produces over 99.9% (+3N) HPA, with 99.99% (4N) produced after a simple washing process.
Compared to other alumina extraction processes, AMMG’s process requires substantially less energy, using low temperatures and pressures. The process produces minimal waste and the key reagents are recyclable, therefore, the environmental and cost efficiencies are high.
The aluminous clay material from the company’s WAbased deposits contains very low levels of impurities, such as iron, and screened grades of up to 38% alumina. AMMG’s process is therefore favoured by this superior mineralogy.
Consulting processing chemists, TSW Analytical, were engaged by AMMG to assist with developing an innovative low-energy and efficient acid-based process.
Given its success, AMMG now plans to progress the level of interest it has received to date from a number of significant international investment companies and potential off-take partners.

Patent filed for AMMG’s innovative HPA process
AMMG filed patent applications (ID 2013900639; ID 2013900636; ID 2013900637) with the Australian patent office to protect its innovative high purity alumina (HPA) processing technology.
The exploration company’s processing technology is expected to offer significant environmental and cost advantages in the production of HPA.
AMMG’s managing director Ric Dawson explained that although the process was based on the ~~-~~ company’s low impurity aluminous clay material, the process is expected to be able to produce alumina using other aluminous ores as well.
“We are confident that our processing technology will successfully produce HPA using other aluminous clays provided they are comparative to aluminium silicates. This may lead to potential licensing opportunities in the future”, Ric Dawson said.
According to Ric Dawson, the company is also considering the construction of a HPA plant facility in the near future.

High purity alumina: a superior product
High purity alumina (HPA) (>99.9%) is a premium high-value product that can be used in a number of electronic and other high-performance products.
HPA is a specialised alumina known for its superior hardness, high brightness, superior corrosion resistance and its ability to withstand high temperatures.
HPA is used in a variety of markets, such as hightech, energy, communications and automobiles, but 60% of HPA produced is allocated to the LED industry (tablet, mobile and computer screen backlighting).
As the demand for the LED market grows, HPA demand is expected to rise significantly.
Reported worldwide production of HPA is about 15,000tpa, which is expected to increase at 7% CAGR. Prices range from approximately US$40/kg to US$290/kg, depending on the level of purity.

Increase in aluminous clay resources
AMMG recently increased its combined aluminous clay resources to 297 million tonnes (Mt) with the acquisition of the Gibson high purity alumina (HPA) project.
The exploration company’s 100% owned Gibson HPA project is strategically located just ten to forty kilometres from the port of Esperance, which has been given approval by the state government to expand its capacity to handle the rise in exports from the Yilgarn region of southWestern Australia.
A JORC inferred resource of 147Mt of aluminous clay at 10.3% alumina has been delineated by AMMG, which is based on historical exploration by Western Mining Corporation (WMC), now BHP Billiton.

WMC conducted a 47-hole aircore drill program and bulk samples were taken.
One sample indicated alumina grades of 20.86%, which upgrades to 36.96% alumina when the +2 micron size fraction is removed.
“Historical data indicated alumina grades of up to 21% alumina, with screened grades of 37% alumina after the removal of the +2 micron size fraction”, AMMG’s managing director, Ric Dawson said.
AMMG’s 297Mt combined aluminous clay resource is made up of 85Mt inferred at the Kerrigan project; 65Mt indicated (16.52Mt) and inferred (48.48Mt) at the Meckering project; and 147Mt inferred at the Gibson project.
“We plan to conduct metallurgical analysis on the Gibson aluminous clays to confirm its suitability for use in our HPA processing technology”, he said.
WMC first explored the Gibson project area in 1990 with the aim to delineate economic aluminous clay reserves for the paper and ceramic industries.
AMMG estimates an exploration target* with a conceptual range of 2.5 billion tonnes (Bt) to 3.9Bt of aluminous clay at its five South West HPA projects in Western Australia. The five projects are within relatively close proximity to existing rail, road and port infrastructure.

projects, particularly our high purity alumina project”, he added.
AMMG’s managing director Ric Dawson led the delegation comprising of Mr Xueli Wang, who has previously owned a large port in China through his role as president of a freight logistics company, and two other technical minerals delegates, Mr Shujun Pan and Mr Qiang Wang.
“Due to Mr Wang’s background in freight and logistics, we met with Albany Port CEO Brad Williamson and viewed the port and surrounding infrastructure”, Ric Dawson said.
“The interest we have received from this Chinese delegation is a vote of confidence in our South West
The delegates also met with MLA Member for Albany Peter Watson, Great Southern Development Commission chief executive Bruce Manning, City of Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington and acting chief executive Graham Foster.

Alumina road show to international investors
AMMG recently travelled to Canada to participate in the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) conference in Toronto. The PDAC convention attracted over 30,000 delegates from 125 countries this year.
AMMG’s managing director, Ric Dawson, said “the conference was a significant opportunity for us to promote our high purity alumina project and establish new alliances in the industry. Our booth attracted a number of interested parties, which we look forward to continuing discussions with in the future”.
During the PDAC convention, Mr Dawson presented to a large number of Canadian stockbrokers, including analysts who have provided extensive coverage on other HPA industry participants. Mr Dawson said that the company gained significant investor interest from the Canadian/USA trip, with

various parties seeking opportunities for further involvement.
After PDAC, AMMG travelled to Miami to attend the 19th Bauxite & Alumina conference. Mr Dawson was accompanied by non-executive director Mr Peter Bailey, former president of Alcoa Worldwide Chemicals. Mr Dawson said that the conference was a suitable platform for AMMG to introduce its innovative HPA processing technology and the inherent environmental and capital benefits it proposes.
