Retirement and Appointment of Directors

Straits Resources Limited (Straits) advises that long-serving director, Dr Garry Lowder, will retire from the Board on 30 June 2011. Dr Lowder’s skills and experience will be very much missed by his colleagues, but the company is pleased to announce that Dr Susan Vearncombe, who, like Dr Lowder, is a highly qualified and experienced geologist, has been appointed as a non-executive director. This appointment is intended to take effect from the next scheduled Board meeting on 23 May 2011.

Dr Vearncombe holds a Bachelor of Social Science and Master of Science (Hons) degrees from the University of Waikato, New Zealand and a doctorate in Economic Geology from the University of Western Australia. Dr Vearncombe is currently Managing Director of Silver Swan Group Limited. Susan has been engaged in exploration and mining for over twenty five years. She is well published in international scientific journals on the topics of geochemistry, mineralization and spatial analysis.

Dr Lowder is retiring from the Board of Directors after 14 years of outstanding service to Straits. Since his appointment in 1997, Dr Lowder has been a member of both the Remuneration Committee and the Audit Committee, and more recently has Chaired the Audit Committee. He has also served as a director on a number of Straits’ subsidiaries. Throughout his tenure as a director of Straits, Garry has provided wise counsel to the CEO, senior executives and his fellow directors, with a special emphasis on the geological aspects of the company’s business. His broad experience, geological knowledge and intellectual capacity have made a significant contribution to the company’s success. The Board warmly thanks Dr Lowder for his commitment to Straits and wishes him well for the future.
