Maritime throughput and revenues in January – June 2019 period

On the basis of the Rules of Ljubljana Stock Exchange and the Financial Instruments Market Act RS, Luka Koper d.d. publishes the maritime throughput and revenues (incomplete data) for the January – June 2019 period.

Luka Koper has in the first half of 2019 registered 11.9 million tons of total maritime throughput, which is 1 percent less compared to the first half of 2018. Nevertheless, the net sales revenues reached a 6 percent increase, mostly because of better cargo structure and additional services on goods. As expected, we registered a decrease of volumes on the car segment, mostly because of the global slow-down of sales of new cars. The general cargo segment - mostly timber and steel products - has been suffering from instable political situation in North Africa and Middle East and volatility for a longer time. On the other hand, the trend of containerization is bringing positive effects, with conventional cargo transports decreasing in favor of container transports. The traffic of containers reached 497,891 TEU in the January – June period 2019, a 2 percent increase compared to the same period of 2018. An increasingly important segment are the container freight station services, mostly stripping/stuffing of containers, with multiplicative effects on various terminals and bringing opportunities for higher value-added services. In relation to dry bulk volumes, we registered a 9 percent drop, which can be mostly attributable to two factors: a technical failure at the facility of one of the customers, who uses port of Koper as a supply point for coal, while the other factor is the delay of ships arrivals into July.
