Rafael Padilla, CEO of Fagron: "Fagron showed an excellent performance across the board in the first quarter of 2020. Europe showed a good development of organic turnover growth, while North America and Latin America were able to continue their strong performance.

Whilst the impact of COVID-19 on our results is limited on balance, the outbreak has led to a new reality since the beginning of 2020, in terms of both the organization of our operations and the demand for and availability of our products.

The safety and well-being of our employees is our absolute top priority. At the same time our ability to supply our products at this time of growing scarcity of specific raw materials and medicines and pressure on the healthcare sector is more crucial than ever. At all our facilities we have introduced strict measures to provide optimum protection to our staff and at the same time guarantee the continuity of our activities.

At present it remains difficult to predict the final impact of COVID-19 on Fagron's performance, given that many of the markets in which we are active are still in the midst of the virus outbreak and the measures to control it. On the one hand we are seeing exceptionally high demand for specific products, in particular at Brands and Essentials. Compounding Services plays an important role in providing solutions for bottlenecks, for example by preparing products that are scarce and by taking pressure off overstretched nurses and hospitals. This proves once more the added value of Compounding Services in these exceptional circumstances. On the other hand, Compounding Services is impacted by elective care being delayed or scaled back. On balance, we are convinced that the strategic position and the importance of compounding, both in the (hospital) pharmacy and by Fagron, will gain importance.

We have every confidence that our global team and network will enable us to respond effectively to the changed circumstances, allowing us to further strengthen our ties as a trusted partner for our customers, both now and in the future. COVID-19 is causing a great deal of uncertainty and at present it is still too soon to predict to what extent this will affect our activities. To ensure that Fagron's long-term potential is not compromised we are taking some precautionary measures, including a greater focus on cost control, disciplined capital allocation and strict cash flow management, so that we can continue to invest in our further development. As part of these measures the 2019 dividend proposal has been lowered to € 0.08 per share.

The current conditions are placing extremely high demands on our employees, who as frontline staff are making maximum efforts to optimize supplies to hospitals and pharmacies. Rafael Padilla, CEO van Fagron: "Fagron heeft in het eerste kwartaal van 2020 over de volle breedte een uitstekende performance laten zien. Europa liet in het eerste kwartaal een goede ontwikkeling van de organische omzetgroei zien, terwijl Noord-Amerika en Latijns-Amerika hun sterke performance wisten voort te zetten.

Hoewel wij per saldo een beperkte impact op onze resultaten zien, zorgt de uitbraak van COVID-19 sinds de start van 2020 voor een nieuwe realiteit, zowel wat betreft de inrichting van onze operaties, als de vraag naar en beschikbaarheid van onze producten.

De veiligheid en het welzijn van onze werknemers heeft onze absolute prioriteit. Tegelijkertijd is het kunnen leveren van onze producten in deze tijd van toenemende schaarste van specifieke grondstoffen en geneesmiddelen en druk op de gezondheidszorg belangrijker dan ooit. In al onze faciliteiten hebben we strikte maatregelen getroffen om onze medewerkers optimaal te beschermen en tegelijkertijd de continuïteit van onze activiteiten te waarborgen.

De uiteindelijke impact van COVID-19 op de performance van Fagron laat zich op dit moment nog lastig voorspellen, omdat het virus in veel van de markten waarin wij actief zijn nog volop in de uitbraak en de daar aan gerelateerde maatregelen zitten. We zien enerzijds dat de vraag naar specifieke producten uitzonderlijk hoog is, met name bij Brands en Essentials. Compounding Services speelt een belangrijke rol in het oplossen van een aantal knelpunten, zoals het bereiden van producten die schaars of niet meer voorradig zijn, en het ontlasten van overbelaste verpleegkundigen en ziekenhuizen. Hiermee bewijst Compounding Services eens en te meer haar toegevoegde waarde in deze uitzonderlijke marktomstandigheden. Anderzijds wordt Compounding Services ook geraakt doordat planbare zorg wordt uitgesteld of afgeschaald. Per saldo zijn wij ervan overtuigd dat de strategische positie en het belang van bereidingen, zowel in de (ziekenhuis)apotheek als door Fagron, aan terrein zal winnen.

Wij zijn vol vertrouwen dat wij met ons wereldwijde team en netwerk goed in kunnen spelen op de gewijzigde omstandigheden, waardoor we onze positie als betrouwbare partner voor onze klanten verder kunnen bestendigen, nu en in de toekomst. COVID-19 zorgt voor veel onzekerheid en het is op dit moment nog te vroeg om te voorspellen in welke mate dit onze activiteiten zal beïnvloeden. Om te waarborgen dat ons potentieel op de lange termijn niet wordt ingeperkt, nemen we een aantal voorzorgsmaatregelen, zoals meer focus op kostenbeheersing, een gedisciplineerde kapitaalallocatie en strikt cash flow management, zodat we kunnen blijven investeren in onze verdere ontwikkeling. Als onderdeel hiervan is het voorstel voor het dividend over 2019 verlaagd naar € 0,08 per aandeel.

De huidige omstandigheden vergen het uiterste van onze medewerkers, die als onderdeel van de frontlinie zich maximaal inzetten om ziekenhuizen en apotheken zo goed mogelijk te kunnen beleveren. Het maakt me ontzettend trots dat we als organisatie met al onze betrokken en gemotiveerde medewerkers bijdragen aan een gezondere toekomst, ook in deze uitdagende tijden."
