Liander, the largest grid operator in the Netherlands, and Alfen, specialist in energy solutions for the future, today announce that Alfen has been awarded a framework agreement for the supply of prefab secondary substations to Liander. This is a continuation of a decades-long relationship between Liander and Alfen of offering smart and reliable grid solutions. The agreement will have an initial term of four years and can be extended with four additional years.
The energy transition requires significant grid expansion and reinforcements in order to accommodate the growing production and consumption of electricity. For instance, to integrate the growing number of renewables, such as solar and wind, and to enable charging of electric vehicles which are rapidly increasing in numbers. With the agreement, Liander is able to further prepare the grid for the future and Alfen will be supplying the majority of the required secondary substations under Liander's dual source philosophy.
Especially for the contract, Alfen developed an innovative new variant of its industry-leading Pacto range. The new compact substation has a small footprint and has been optimised for Liander's desired configurations.
Marco Roeleveld, Chief Executive Officer of Alfen, comments: "We are proud to continue our constructive collaboration and to further build our decades-long relationship with the Alliander group. A trusted relationship under which we have not only been supplying our smart grid solutions over the past decades but also our EV charge points. The extension of our contract for the supply of substations is a great testimony to our strong focus on delivering high quality solutions that facilitate the future needs of the electricity grid."
Marlies Visser, Chief Operations Officer of Alliander, adds: "The rapidly evolving energy transition is posing great challenges. With Alfen we have a partner that can contribute to overcome these challenges. We look forward to continue our close cooperation in the years to come as we prepare the grid for the future."
