LIVE Amateur Football: BFV and _wige MEDIA AG agree Pilot Phase in Bavaria

Cologne, December 12, 2016. The Bavarian Football Association (BFV) and Sport-Total.tv GmbH, a subsidiary of _wige MEDIA AG, will be transmitting the games of the Bavarian football league (BayernLiga) live over Internet in a pilot phase to run until the end of the the season. A Letter of Intent was signed for this purpose by BFV President Rainer Koch and Peter Lauterbach, Sport-Total.tv’s general manager, at the BFV’s Management Board meeting on Saturday in Isny (Allgäu). During the winter break, Sport-Total.tv will be installing new 180-degree camera technology for interested football clubs at a large number of Bayernliga locations free of charge. The special video system will record the games fully automatically. The live stream can be accessed from “sporttotal.tv” via the “_wige” app and on the WEB TV over the pilot phase. During live transmission, users can also take on the role of director by moving the 180-degree image across the pitch, selecting areas of the pitch using the zoom function, or selecting individual players to take a closer look. Highlights of the game can be shared across social networks.

“We want to promote the public profile of amateur football together with other associations and put the focus more strongly on the clubs. After the pilot phase, we will decide whether and to what extent the innovative system should be used in future in other Bavarian leagues and levels,” explains BFV President Rainer Koch. Sport-Total.tv General Manager Peter Lauterbach says: “BFV has always been one of the most important pioneers in digitalization in recent years. We draw a great deal of motivation from our cooperation with Germany’s largest regional association and will be gathering very important information in the coming months, which will then be a huge help to us in the nationwide rollout with DFB!” Both parties intend to establish a close cooperation between “sporttotal.tv” and the BFV.DE/BFV.TV amateur football platform.

In an initial test, BFV and “sporttotal.tv” transmitted the SV Heimstetten – FC Unterföhring Bavarian league game (0:2) live back on November 26. “I am very happy that the basic technology works. The pilot test has shown a few glitches that will need to be ironed out over the winter,” summarized Marco Schleicher who belongs to the competent technology team of _wige MEDIA AG. The recording of the game can be accessed via the free “_wige” app.

More comments on the live test in Heimstetten:

Ewald J. Matejka, Chairman of SV Heimstetten: “Great stuff! A forward-looking development for amateur football that now needs to be promoted by all of us!”

Bernd Mayer, Technical Director of FC Unterföhring: “During the first 21 games of my team I was always personally present on site. I watched today’s game using the “_wige” app. It was fantastic, and I was able to watch my guys win the game in Heimstetten live.
