Press release 18 February 2013
The Central Denmark Region has announced today that MT Højgaard has been chosen as contractor to build the 34,000 m2buildings that will house the treatment and bed wards for the largest hospital construction in Danish history, the New University Hospital in Aarhus.
This part of phase N2, which is the second phase of the building works, comprises the construction of shell buildings to a height of 8 floors. MT Højgaard is contractor for construction of the shell building for phase N1 of the large hospital complex.
Up until 2019 a total of 223,000 m2 new constructions will be built for the New University Hospital in Aarhus; constructions which will be integrated with the 157,000 m2 of the existing Aarhus University Hospital to form a joint hospital complex. Once the hospital is fully developed, it will be the size of a small Danish provincial town. The large hospital complex will be organised as a village with districts, roads and squares. The intention is to create a sustainable, multifaceted and vibrant part of the city. The hospital will also be constructed to meet future demands in relation to technique, treatment forms and work methods.
Signing of the contract is anticipated as soon as the usual tender activities have been completed. The contract is expected to have a positive effect on MT Højgaard's revenue and earnings during the construction period, but does not give rise to any change in the previously announced financial expectations for 2013.
