The “Geo Arctic” is making good progress on a 2D seismic acquisition program over the large acreage holding, offshore the Seychelles to be acquired by WHL Energy.
Australian energy company WHL Energy Limited ( ASX: WHN ) (“ WHL Energy” or “the Company”) is pleased to provide an update on the progress of the current 2D seismic acquisition program over acreage it is acquiring, offshore the Seychelles.
PT. Geomahakarsa Indonesia, which is undertaking the large seismic program with FugroData Services, has reported that as of December 6, 2010, 14% of the total survey has been acquired, with 35 out of 120 sail lines completed. Geomahakarsa also reported that acquisition equipment onboard the seismic vessel “Geo Arctic” is performing well, allowing 2,689 Sail-line kilometres to be acquired to date.
A total of 7,200 km of 2D seismic is being “shot” over the 35 blocks WHL Energy is acquiring under an agreement announced by the Company in October 2010.
That agreement will see WHL acquire SEYCO Energy Pty Ltd and its rights to up to 100% of 20,700 square kilometres of exploration interests in a prospective, shallow water area off the southern Seychelles coast.
The current seismic campaign is part of a 17,000 km, multi-client program of 2D seismic, gravity and magnetic data acquisition being undertaken by Fugro and Geomahakarsa within the Seychelles Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
More than $7 million of historic seismic and other exploration work has identified a number of large prospects and leads on the Blocks being acquired by WHL Energy and the new program will target those leads.
WHL Energy CEO, David Rowbottam, said the Company was pleased with the progress that has been achieved to date on the Seychelles seismic program.
“WHL Energy has recently been approached by potential farmin partners regarding our blocks in the Seychelles Islands. The data acquired in this survey will provide important information as WHL Energy progresses to farm out discussions in 2011,” Mr Rowbottam said.
