WHL ENERGY APPOINTS EXPERIENCED OIL AND GAS EXECUTIVE AS CHAIRMAN

WHL Energy Limited ( ASX: WHN ) (“ WHL Energy ” or “ the Company ”) is pleased to announce the appointment of experienced oil and gas executive John Chandler to the position of Chairman of the Company. Mr Chandler’s legal and management experience and his expertise in the oil and gas sector are considered to be important factors in leading WHL Energy in its continuing growth as a rapidly developing oil and gas explorer.

Mr Chandler, who was appointed to the WHL Energy Board as a Non-Executive Director in August 2011, brings key oil and gas management and corporate experience to the Chairman’s position at a time when the Company is making strong progress with its “Flagship” offshore Seychelles exploration project.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons), Mr Chandler’s legal career included significant periods with Parker and Parker and KPMG Legal (he was managing partner of Parker and Parker and partner in charge of the Perth office of KPMG Legal). He has over 30 years of commercial experience with a focus on project finance and mining and energy, including holding the position of Non-Executive Director of ASX listed oil and gas company Sino Gas & Energy Holdings Limited as well as being a Non-Executive Director of an unlisted engineering company. In addition, he is the Associate Director of the Centre for Mining, Energy and Natural Resources Law in the Law School at the University of Western Australia. He has also held board positions in a number of other companies.

Mr Chandler said he was delighted to be taking up the role of Chairman of WHL Energy at such an exciting time in the Company’s history.

“WHL Energy is making a significant impact as an up-and-coming junior explorer with its successful acquisition of our large, highly prospective exploration interests off the coast of the Seychelles and the success of our recently completed 2D seismic programme over a large part of those Seychelles interests.

“The data from that seismic acquisition programme has confirmed the prospectivity of a number of large leads and targets and the Company is currently receiving strong international interest in our Seychelles farm out programme. WHL Energy has also mapped out a clear strategy to continue its growth through a review of new business opportunities in the sub-Saharan region and Australian gazettal opportunities,” he said.

Mr Peter Bartter, a NSW based Director of WHL Energy since March 2005 before becoming Chairman in late 2008, is stepping down in support of the Company’s realignment to an exciting upstream oil and gas explorer. The appointment of Perth based John Chandler enables greater access to the Chairman at a critical time during the Company’s farm-out of its flagship Seychelles

acreage position. Peter Bartter plans to pursue other business interests after playing an important role in steering the Company to its current strong financial position. Mr Bartter remain one of the Company’s largest shareholders and looks forward remaining a major shareholder as the Company continues to grow shareholder value both in the Seychelles and elsewhere.

Mr Chandler said that he and the WHL Energy Board and Management thanked Mr Bartter for his significant and strategic contribution to the Company over the past six years and for his ongoing support as a major shareholder.

Mr Chandler will take up his new role effective immediately.
