Dear Sir:
Re: Kentucky Shale Gas reserves
Further to our conversation, I have reviewed the provided material on the shale gas reserves attributed to WHL Energy Ltd. and Gale Force Petroleum. These include:
-
Trimble Engineering Associates Ltd., Contingent Resource Calculations
-
Gale Force Petroleum presentations
-
the Kentucky Geological Survey, Estimated Proven Reserves in the Devonian Ohio/New Albany/Chattanooga Black Shale of Kentucky
-
the Kentucky Geological Survey Devonian Shale of Eastern Kentucky: Type Decline Parameters.
Gale Force Petroleum and WHL Energy Ltd. each have a 50% interest in the project and the numbers provided in the reports are for a 50% interest.
Comparative numbers attributed to the property by Gale Force as an owner and Trimble as a consulting firm are as follows using an estimate of the value of gas in the ground at present day values.
| Trimble | GaleForce | |
|---|---|---|
| GasinPlace | 617Bcf | 726Bcf |
| RecoveryFactor | 12.5% | 23% |
| ContingentResource | 76.5Bcf | 167Bcf |
| PresentValue@10%DCF | ?? | $355million |
| ValueofGasinground@$0.50/Mcf | $308.5million | $368million |
The numbers presented by Trimble et al are considered conservative and reasonable. The numbers presented within the Gale Force presentation may also be considered reasonable. In both cases it must be remembered that the resources
quoted are Contingent Resources that by definition have not yet been determined by drilling and cannot be considered reserves.
Sincerely yours,
Barry L. Whelan, P. Geo.
