West Wits increases its near surface JORC gold resource to 468,000 ounces from initial resources at its Princess and Marquise Targets

Highlights

• West Wits completes its initial Inferred and Indicated gold resources for the Company’s Princess and Marquise Targets ahead of schedule. The targets are located at the Luipaardsvlei and DRD Leases, respectively. These resources meet JORC reporting compliance standards.

• The Princess and Marquise Resources together with the previously announced Emerald and Radiant Resources, provide a further upgrade of the Company’s total gold resource to 468,000 ounces (refer table 2).

• The Company has established a combined resource of 740,000 tonnes at an average grade of 1.52 g/t for 36,000 ounces of gold from the Princess and Marquise targets.

• The Princess Resource has achieved a 20,000 ounce gold resource at an average grade of 1.40g/t, down to a maximum 65m vertical depth. Within this resource, 18,000 ounces at an average grade of 1.4g/t has been reported in the JORC Inferred category, with 2,000 ounces at an average grade of 1.50 g/t reported as Indicated.

• The Marquise Resource achieved a 16,000 ounce JORC Inferred gold resource at an average grade of 1.72g/t, down to a maximum 60m vertical depth.

• The Company will be initially focusing on the Princess Resource for a possible resource upgrade, whilst also assessing potential mining synergies with the contiguous Emerald Resource announced in January 2009.

• The Marquise Resource will be further investigated in the second half of 2009 for further resource upgrade potential.

West Wits Mining Limited (ASX:WWI) (“the Company” or “West Wits”) is pleased to announce it has completed independent sign-off for initial JORC Indicated and Inferred gold resources from the Princess and Marquise Targets. The Princess and Marquise Targets are located across areas of historically mined Kimberley Reef. Both targets were investigated for possible near surface gold mineralisation down to a vertical depth of approximately 65 metres.

At the Princess Target (“the Princess Resource”), West Wits’ has achieved a 20,000 ounce gold resource. Within this resource, 18,000 ounces at an average grade of 1.4g/t has been reported in the JORC Inferred category, with 2,000 ounces at an average grade of 1.50 g/t reported as Indicated.

The Princess Resource is located across a 2.1 km section of the Kimberley Reef on the Luipaardsvlei Lease. The Princess Resource lies contiguous to the Emerald Resource, where approximately 160,000 ounces of gold has been reported on the West Rand Consolidated Lease. Historical mining focused on exploiting the main Battery Reef which was the dominant mineralised reef within the Kimberley Reef Group. The Company’s exploration program intersected the higher grade Battery Reefs and the lower grade Boulder Reefs in the majority of Reverse Circulation and diamond drill holes, however underground workings were occasionally encountered in some areas drilled.

A conceptual target announced in July 2008 identified a possible 32,000 – 38,000 ounces of gold for a combined Emerald and Princess Target resource. The current combined JORC resource for the Emerald and Princess is 181,000 ounces at an average grade of 2.01 g/t down to a vertical depth of 85m.

The Company believes there is further exploration potential on the Princess Target at depth, however the focus is now moving to resource development, concentrating on areas of identified near surface higher grade zones.

The Company is currently determining with the independent consulting geologist, the most efficient and cost effective methods of upgrading the Princess Resource status. An independent engineering consultancy has been engaged to assist with scoping studies.

At the Marquise Target (“the Marquise Resource”), West Wits’ has achieved a 16,000 ounce JORC Inferred gold resource at an average grade of 1.72g/t, down to an average depth of 65m, across a 700m section of Kimberley Reef, located on the Durban Roodepoort Deep (DRD) Lease. Exploration of the Marquise Target was undertaken to a vertical depth of 65m, to assess the potential for near surface gold mineralisation, which may be conducive to a small scale open cut mining opportunity. The conceptual target for the Marquise Target was 13,000 – 17,000 ounces of gold. The Marquise Resource continues to confirm assumptions undertaken for the conceptual target statement and for the Company’s exploration strategy to investigate near surface gold mineralisation.

The mineralised reefs intersected in the Marquise target comprise remnants of the 9 band Kimberley Reef which was historically mined at depth and unmined parallel reefs.

The Company does not intend to further investigate the Marquise Resource until the second half of 2009, due to focusing on the resource development of the Emerald, Princess and Radiant Resources for the majority of 2009. Upon commencement of the next stage of review for the Marquise Resource, the Company will focus on the further understanding of the position of the high grade channelisation.
