COMPANY ANNOUNCEMENT
West Wits to commence detailed investigation of near surface mineralization on the Kimberly Reef based on positive results received from initial trenching and drilling program
Highlights
-
Initial RC drilling results have returned intercepts of 4.58 g/t Au over 3 metres from 65m and 2.05 g/t Au over 2 metres from 56m recorded on the Kimberley Reef.
-
Sampling results from the initial trenching program have returned grades of 5.1 g/t Au over 1.39m and 4.74 g/t Au over 1.1m.
-
Both initial drilling and trenching results and have encouraged the Company to proceed with planning a more detailed exploration program designed to delineate surface mineralisation with a view to substantiating opportunities for open cut mining.
30[th] April 2008 :
As reported in the West Wits Mining Limited (“WWI” or “the Company”) March 2008 quarterly report, the Company received some encouraging initial results from the exploration program it has undertaken on a section of Kimberly Reef located within Company’s DRD Lease. This initial exploration program included both trenching and a small RC drilling program both of which returned positive results and which the Company believes warrant immediate follow up investigation. These results are presented within Table 1.
The Kimberly Reef across the West Rand goldfield has been a significant source of gold production for in excess of 100 years and on the DRD lease was predominantly mined through underground methods. As part of the WWI exploration strategy, the Company wanted to test the potential for near surface mineralization of this reef with the view to taking advantage of any smaller scale open cut mining opportunities. Whilst previous owners of the DRD mine have extensively mined the reef at depth it was the Company’s belief there may be open cut opportunities closer to surface and above the old workings. These initial results have encouraged the Company to expedite the implementation of a more detailed program to further test the near surface mineralization.
The extended exploration program will entail further RC and shallow diamond drilling to commence as soon as possible for the purpose of building on these results. Subject to these results, the Company intends to make an application to the Department of Minerals and Energy to obtain and process a bulk sample from the area. This bulk sample will help confirm grade and metallurgical characteristics of the reef mineralization and further substantiate the feasibility for a small scale open cut mining opportunity.
The Company looks forward to releasing further announcements in regards to this exploration program.
On behalf of the Board
