The Manager Company Announcements Office ASX Ltd

Enerji business update

..Second Enerji customer – preparatory work for new waste heat system begins ..Strong pipeline of prospective new projects ..Enerji to receive significant R&D cash payment ..Carnarvon waste heat to power system in commissioning stages

Clean power company Enerji Limited (ASX:ERJ) is at a crucial stage of achieving project scale that has always been the objective of the board and management.

Second Enerji customer

Enerji has received a purchase order for installation preparation of a waste heat to power system (WHPS) at an operating gold mine in the Asia Pacific. This has followed site visits and a viability assessment by Enerji personnel and subsequent commercial negotiations over several months.

The new customer is a top 200 ASX-listed mining company and Enerji’s pipeline of new project targets includes possible further projects with this same customer as well as other mining companies with remote operations.

Enerji is undertaking the first stages of design and planning as well as preparing a construction contract for an agreed initial fee.

It is estimated the WHPS can save over a million litres of diesel and thousands of tonnes of CO2 each year. The economic and environmental benefits are strong and the company considers many other off-grid mining sites would benefit from similar opex reductions.

Pipeline of prospective new Enerji projects

Enerji continues to work on an advancing pipeline of potential customers at mine sites and remote towns. One area of concentration is Pacific and Indian ocean islands where more expensive diesel is often the only fuel option; making the Enerji WHPS even more compelling.

As stated, Enerji’s newest customer has indicated its intent to enter into further agreements for WHPS at its other mine sites in the Asia Pacific. Enerji is anticipating site visits at these mines and consequent assessments of cost benefit for tailored WHPS power houses. More specifically this opportunity represents the potential to install a further three WHPS.

Enerji site assessment reports to prospective clients do involve fees and expenses paid to Enerji. Some of these have already moved to the proposal stage. Enerji has also submitted a detailed bid for another mine site in Western Australia that has been well received and is awaiting reassessment of the mine life before proceeding.

Some further preliminary site assessment work has also been conducted for an Australian industrial site with significant potential for an Enerji WHPS. This is a more sophisticated application involving potentially five units.

The completion of commissioning of the Carnarvon facility will see it generating power and used by Enerji as a reference site that will lower the hurdle for confirmed new projects.

Enerji to receive $1.2M R&D tax incentive cash refund

Enerji has registered with AusIndustry (on behalf of Innovation Australia) for the Australian R&D tax incentive. Enerji anticipates that it will receive a R&D tax incentive cash refund of $1.2 million for R&D expenses incurred in FY2012.

These funds, which have already started being accessed, are a helpful source of non-dilutive funds that benefit all shareholders. This is an important time for the company with Carnarvon commissioning and new project development. The funds will help with the projects and working capital.

Enerji qualifies for the R&D payment as it assesses best case site specific WHPS applications that involve existing technology integration into existing power infrastructure.

Enerji anticipates that further submissions will be made in FY2013 covering its investments in R&D across its projects including Carnarvon and the new mining company project.

Carnarvon commissioning phase

Enerji has announced it has moved into the commissioning stage and is soon expecting first power generation from its waste heat to power system at Horizon Powers Carnarvon Power Station. Enerji has appointed a contractor to complete final preparations prior to final commissioning and first power generation.

On site priorities over the next few weeks at Carnarvon are:

  • Modifications to a waste water drain

  • Fitting monitoring devices to exhaust piping.

The final tasks involve Opcon Powerbox engineers scheduled to be on site from 15 April to begin the power generation process. This is a significant undertaking by the engineers as their schedules are busy and they will travel from Sweden to Carnarvon to complete the job.

The Carnarvon project is the first installation of an Opcon Powerbox outside Europe and the first Enerji installation.
