CLEAN ENERGY FOR CARNARVON
Work commenced at the Carnarvon Power Station this week to install a waste heat recovery system which will improve the efficiency of power generation and also lower CO2 emissions.
Enerji Limited has completed a Power Purchase Agreement with Horizon Power for the installation of an Opcon Powerbox at the Carnarvon Power Station.
The Opcon Powerbox uses discarded heat energy from the exhausts of generators to generate additional, emission-free electricity.
This same technology will now be used in Carnarvon and is expected to be installed by mid-2011 and fully operational thereafter.
Horizon Power’s General Manager Shared Services Peter Jensen said Horizon Power was looking forward to working with Enerji to deliver this exciting project.
“Horizon Power is looking forward to using this innovative technology at the Carnarvon Power Station to improve the efficiency of power generation, and at the same time, reducing carbon dioxide emissions,” said Mr Jensen.
Enerji’s Chief Executive Officer Greg Pennefather said the Opcon Powerbox would provide strong economic and environmental benefits by reducing the fuel usage at the power station.
“Our technology has the capacity to increase Carnarvon Power Station’s energy output by up to 700kW without burning additional fuel or creating emissions, and we are delighted that Horizon has opted to install a unit at Carnarvon,” said Mr Pennefather.
Designed and manufactured in Sweden by Opcon AB, Opcon Powerboxes have been commercialised in Europe by Opcon and are used by numerous companies to lower their fuel costs and lessen their carbon footprints.
Enerji Limited has exclusive marketing rights for Opcon Powerboxes in Australia, and has partnered with Laing O’Rourke to apply their global expertise to design and install the heat recovery power system.
