Perth, Western Australia : Global marine safety equipment provider, Mobilarm Limited (ASX: MBO) (“The Company”) today announces that their proposal to develop a self alerting survival jacket was approved by the European Commission Research Executive Agency. The project will commence as of the 1[st] of December 2012 and it will be developed in conjunction with various Mobilarm selected EU partners in a consortium, including our research and development partners the University of Oviedo and the University of Greenwich. The SASJacket (Self Alerting Survival Jacket) project, led by our 100% owned subsidiary Marine Rescue Technologies Ltd, will develop a miniature Maritime Survivor Location Device (MSLD) solution that intimately integrates with a life-jacket/ Personal Flotation Device (PFD)/ Survival Suits and Submarine Escape and Abandonment Suits. These ‘self-alerting’ flotation devices will revolutionalise the Maritime Industry as technology will take a leading role in the future supply of traditional rubber products.
Mobilarms’ Jorge Nigaglioni, the Project Coordinator stated: “This project will go beyond what is available in the market today. The size and design of the “SASJacket” will enable a truly seamless embedded integration of MSLDs and PFDs that has never been done before. For many years we have led with innovation in MSLDs and we will now expand to lead with innovation beyond the MSLD into Lifejackets and PFDs as well as Survival and Submarine Escape Suits.”
CEO Ken Gaunt added: “The vote of confidence from the European Commission is a clear message of their regard for our capabilities to not only deliver the technical expertise on this project, but also on the significant need for this solution throughout the world wide offshore market. ”
