Mobilarm successfully completes field trials for Crewsafe V200 Submariner Locating Device

Perth, Western Australia: Global marine safety company, Mobilarm Limited (ASX:MBO) today announced that the Company has successfully completed field testing for the Crewsafe V200 Maritime Survivor Locating Device (MSLD) used for submarine escape and abandonment. The Crewsafe V200 MSLD is being developed by Mobilarm as part of a Sole Source contract with United States Naval Sea Systems Command (“NAVSEA”) awarded in April 2010.

Joint field-testing was conducted by Mobilarm and NAVSEA at their Atlantic Underwater Testing and Evaluation Centre on 6 June 2011, and separately by Mobilarm off the South West coast of Australia on 22 June 2011. Field-testing included a series of extreme range tests, designed to determine the maximum distance that the device’s transmissions can be received by rescue assets.

The initial field-testing in collaboration with NAVSEA provided an opportunity for Mobilarm’s engineering team to refine the technical aspects of the device calibration in-situ, and follow up testing conducted independently by Mobilarm confirmed the submariner device complies with all performance and alerting characteristics specified in the contract with NAVSEA.

Mobilarm’s Chief Executive Officer, Lindsay Lyon, commented: “We are extremely pleased with the results of these sea trials. This testing marks one of the final stages of validation for the product.

“The results of the follow up trials confirmed the Company’s expectations, revealing that emergency transmissions from the Crewsafe V200 were received more than 100 nautical miles away, which was well in excess of the current MSLD technology’s maximum alerting range of 25 nautical miles.

“During the NAVSEA trials, Mobilarm identified and resolved minor technical issues that allowed our engineers to refine the device’s configuration for optimum performance. Very strong results were subsequently achieved in Mobilarm’s follow up sea trials. This result is testament to the strength of Mobilarm’s development team.

“The product, due to be launched this week at the NATO Submarine Escape and Rescue Working Group, will undergo further trials in collaboration with NAVSEA in the current quarter,” Mr. Lyon added.

The product will be officially launched at the NATO Submarine Escape and Rescue Working Group (SMERWG) reception in Amsterdam on 7 July 2011, where 120 representatives from NATO member countries and other submarine operating nations will be present. The aim of this working group is to achieve standardisation in submarine escape and rescue techniques worldwide.
